Since I'm getting on in years, figured I'd put together a team of Over-the-Hill Avengers. The only requirement is that you have to be at least 50 years old (Marvel time) in order to join.

I would keep the team to just five or six members and make it mean something to be and AVENGER again(just like the X-Men the brand has become to watered down like the old wrestling stable in the nWo where basically everyone is a member)

My roster would be Captain America,Gambit,Iron Man,Jean Grey,Nightcrawler & Scarlet Witch.A nice mix of Avengers & X-Men and a verity of powers and personalities.I think the dynamic between Cap/Jean(could be a new couple with both draw to each other as people out of time in terms of be brought to the present and missing years of real world time.Iron Man/Gambit could have good banter back and forth and being to ladies men.Nigthcrawler/Witch with their beliefs in god and magic.)

#7. Quicksilver. I'm not sure if he counts more as an X-Man/Brotherhood member, but I don't think there was a distinction on that here.

#8. Atomic Bomb. He actually has become an Avenger, even though he started out doomed to being a sidekick forever.

I like the big rosters but theres a lot to be said for the smaller rosters for the very reasons you mention. One of my rationales is that Not everyone would have perfect attendence 100 percent of the time. But...... If you make everyone and Avenger who would make a cool Avenger. Its not very Elite anymore. But if you proceed with the narrative of the Avengers as an elite corp, How do you keep things fresh. Change things constantly like those Aad cases over at Dc? Also I like the scenes where 2 or 3 Avengers return from beating oh.... Whirlwind and Shocker say then return to the mansion to find oh.... Lets say Wendigo standing astride 7 or 8 fallen Avengers and a few others are slumped against the wall exausted but not quite defeated yet.
