    Default Rank the Thor Runs

I've been going Thor crazy after having been knocked out by The Dark World (already one of my favorite Marvel live actions). I first read Thor back when the might John Buscema was doing the pencils. My ranking:

    1) Simonson
    2) Conway/J. Buscema
    3) Lee/Kirby
    4) Aaron
    5) Straczynski

The little I've read of the Fraction was okay, but I don't put him up in the above realms. The art of J. Buscema made up for some of Conway's weaker writing (which admittedly occurred more than rarely).

Didn't get to all of those runs yet. Simonson's Thor is easily the best, though and I really liked Aaron's. Not sure if others share the same sentiment, but I also enjoyed Kieron Gillen's.

I've heard good things. I'm on vol.4 of the Simonson and it's just so good imo. Makes me feel like I'm there with them: humor, creativity, action, sublimely cool stories.

I'm curious in regard to the Gillen.

    1) Simonson
    2) Aaron
    3) Straczynski
    4) Kirby

If Aaron's Mighty Thor maintains its current level of quality or gets even better, it will take the #1 spot when it's done.

Jurgens is in the top 5 definitely. Maybe even top 3.

That's a pretty bold statement. I've heard rapturous reviews about Aaron's run. Maybe it's time I pick it up.

    1. Simonson.
Reality is for those who are afraid of science fiction.

    Loved Simonson's run.
Was really pulled into the whole Thor mythology by JMS, so that one should rank high for me. Partly because of the art by Coipel.

Loved the beginning of Aaron's run, but that quickly turned to ashes.

I just completed Lee and Kirby's Thor omnibus vol 1. I really enjoyed it. I love the old retro comics like that. I was fortunate enough to find both a copy of Lee and Kirby's 1st Thor omnibus, as well Walter Simonson's omnibus at prices that weren't unreasonably extravagant. I had a few trades of Simonsons, but I wanted the complete collection in a format that will last. I'll be reading Simonson's complete run now.

Not really a fan of the others, especially Jurgens.

I agree about the old, old comics. Especially Marvel, because that's what I grew up with. I'm halfway through the amazing Simonson run, plus just finished some wildly fun Jack Kirby era Captain America (The Swine). I mean, I adore the amazingly better paper quality (and more often than not, artwork) of the new, but the old was still great. There aren't too many comics runs today the quality of the Dark Phoenix, Simonson's Thor, Warlock/Thanos/Avengers Final Threat, Daredevil's Born Again, Tomb of Dracula. They remain bulletproof because they're just great stories, period.
