There's plenty of stuff created by the gods that's not part of their culture.

And even if it is something that is a part of their culture, it's not something any Amazon who doesn't go by "Wonder Woman/Girl" would use in battle.

The Golden Age Amazons used all sorts of ropes and tied each other up as part of their loving submission training. And depending on which era you look at the Lasso was either created by the gods or in the GA I believe it was created by Amazon smiths, it's been retconned several times though. Donna and Cassie and Hippolyta and Artemis all used Lasso's (not all of which were THE Lasso). The original contest featured an event which included lassoing others.rope-an-amazon-from-a-kanga.jpg

Why should that matter? The Golden Age set the tone for many characters surviving traits. The Lasso is an integrated piece of Wonder Woman lore, it's been her primary weapon since 1942 and has been there in every continuity and in every Elseworld tale about her. It draws it's origin from the idea Marston had about all Amazons and was evolved with each new continuity. Cassie and Donna each had their own Lasso's at various points and no one questioned why they had them or thought that it was a non-traditional choice for an Amazon-trained warrior. Clearly the lasso isn't the primary weapon choice of every Amazon, but just as obviously it's not a strange weapon for an Amazon to choose either.

Because it's not 1940 anymore and none of those stories are still relevant to what is happening in comics now. Nor are they canon, for those who care about that.

And yes, it's obviously Wonder Woman lore, but I contest that it is also Amazon lore. No modern Amazon who wans't also Wonder Woman/Girl uses a lasso.

If it wasn't a strange weapon for an Amazon to use then surely we'd have tons more of examples of non-Wonder Person Amazons using lassos.

why would we need them? The point is the Amazons give her this weapon, which she's clearly been trained to use and not a single one of them ever thinks "hmmm, that's a strange weapon for an Amazon to use". The flip side of your argument that only WW/WG uses it is that every single Amazon who goes out into man's world as a representative of the Amazon's uses a lasso ... Artemis, Hippolyta, Diana, Cassie and Donna are all "sanctioned" representatives of the Amazon culture and they each use the Lasso in their official capacity. Why would anyone think the Lasso is NOT a specific part of the Amazon culture when the only women they see representing said culture use Lassos?
