Default Why is everyone hellbent on connecting WW to WW2 (or 1)?

I'm trying to not get angry but the choice to make WW essentially a sort of legacy character in the DCEU, not to mention how much they already do it just makes me mad. There is nothing intrinsic in WW that says she should be part of WW2, she's not Captain America! Heck, Captain America could work in a more modern origin himself!

No one is trying to force Superman into the Great Depression, or the Fantastic Four into the Space Race, or Iron Man in the Cold War. Heck, even the X-Men, created as 60s Civil rights allegories, worked pretty well as then "modern" character ere to the generally public in the 90s cartoon and 2000 movie.

I haven't caught up, but from the way Etta Candy is drawn, the Legend of Wonder Woman does a similar thing, with what seems to be 1930s-1940s ish attire. Why?!!!

It's so boring!!! No one wants to just see WW beat up Nazis, where's the threat?!! Plus it continues the belief that these are outdated, unrelatable characters, which especially hurts characters like Superman and Wonder Woman, who are many times treated like soulless paragons instead of characters.

It was dumb when Byrne tried to force WW into a legacy character with the JSA, and it's still dumb!!!

its not a bad thing and its not really boring its just a part of her history and obviously the world wars would make the most sense for a character who's main focus has always been stopping wars hence her main villain being Ares

.........duh frick?!!! So wars stopped after WW2? There's not constant threats of international violence nowadays? Hell, even though it was based in the 80s Red Scare pre-Glasnost era, Perez's idea of having Ares manipulate all these foreign powers is easily replicated in today's modern political spectrum (US, China, North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Israel, Russia).

well obviously dc isnt going to make a political statement on current political affairs, they arent trying to stir controversy.

that would still be an obvious parallel and still stir controversy and kinda pointless to create all of those things that would affect the entire dceu just for a solo film esp when they have material to go off of already. ww1 and ww2 are decades removed so its easy to just have that setting for her esp if they want a generally disliked villain they want her to root against, i.e nazis wrt ww2 and loww.

How is that a good showing for the character?

Hey, how do we have a threat that only Superman can stop?

Bring in Zod, he has the same powers and is an evil general, they can mess up the city.

How do show that Wonder Woman is also powerful?

Lol just some nazi guys with guns. I think my Grandpa fought some of thosez Big woop

the character isnt the same as superman, she doesnt have the same narrative, nor does she approach things the same. her character is more about war and ending wars and rehabilitating bad people where superman is more about sticking it to the bad guy and stopping unstoppable forces of nature.

and its less about showing that shes powerful but showing that her message is powerful

That's kind of diluted if all she can do is street level crap and her villains are dudes that our grandparents killed without Amazon training. How boring

well no thats not the only thing she can do but thats her main focus and if this is what you think then you either havent read enough wonder woman or youre just not a fan which is ok since you dont have to be but that doesnt mean the character is bad

Why would they choose such a boring, generic, and unrelatable place for an origin movie or even in some of the main books?!

well plenty of people dont find it boring, generic, or unrelatable and if the story is any of those things is probably the writing and not the setting itself but also the answer is kinda obvious if you know the character. it just seems pointless and unecessarily negative to harp on this
