I feel like Secret Six is an evolution of Suicide Squad and as such, ignoring the quality of the writing and art, is stronger concept than Suicide Squad. Obviously it doesn't mean that its always going to be better, for example now Suicide Squad is better book overall since it has strong creative team while Gail (in my opinion) reached her creativity peak in pre-Flashpoint Secret Six and now is just trying to relive her best days, she also doesn't have a reliable partner on art.

I don't know about evolution. I love the Secret Six, but the Squad's concept is a very strong and distinct one (well, until Thunderbolts took a very similar turn by having them be villains in prison being sent on risky missions by the government as well). S6 I feel is less unique. They are a team of villains that band together, but there isn't that strong hook provided by the Squad's whole set-up. Their (creative) success as a book is more tied to the strenght of the characters and the bonds they end up forging than to having a truly unique concept, IMO.

Idk, I just started reading Secret Six Vol 1 Villains United, and my initial thought was like huh, this is kinda like Suicide Squad...but better. I've yet to read the Ostrander stuff tho, I will get to it.

    Also I hate Amanda Waller.

Secret Six by a country mile. That first run by Simone is a classic.

I didn't think Secret Six was anything like Suicide Squad.

Yes. I've re-read that Ostrander run 4 times now. And see more in it than ever.

THIS. Squad gets the edge despite its shortcomings because DAMN that concept is amazing, not just for comics but for fiction in general.

It's just a shame it's now treated as a corporate IP, and not a vehicle that asks interesting moral/ethnical questions.

Secret Six on the basis it doesn't have Harley Quinn.

    Which Squad?

First one was awesome. The ones that followed, less so.

Secret Six had a great cast, but IMO got a little repetitive with the plots

Both are good and Secret Six, Suicide Squad, and Birds of Prey were just meant to crossover from time to time - Simone did an amazing job with all of them in Secret Six and Birds of Prey.

The Gail Simone version of Secret Six is one of my all-time favourite comic book runs.
I have found every relaunch of Suicide Squad completely boring.

The Six has always been Suicide Squad-lite. Going with SS by default! I don't think Gail is the strongest writer that i'm led to believe. But that's just me.
