hmm, so if we're not counting long form, I'm gonna go...:

    1. The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
    2. Batman & Robin by Grant Morrison
    3. The Killing Joke by Alan Moore
Comics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. -- Grant Morrison, 2008

trade-waiting - Ice Cream Man, Monstress

backlog - Blade of the Immortal, Mignolaverse, Mind MGMT, Promethea

To be fair, if you chose anything in like, the top 50 Batman stories, it could be accused of being a cliche. And then if you chose anything obscure, it could be accused of being hipster. Can't win.

    One and two are clearly:
1 - The Dark Knight Returns
    2 - Year One

after that there are many candidates:
    The Hungry Grass
All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder
    Dark Night Dark City
    Batman vs Predator
    The Joker's Five Way Revenge

To be a little more creative, I'll be ignoring Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns:

    • Batman: Prey
    • Batman: A Lonely Place Of Dying
    • Batman: Nine Lives
Visit my website: http://ultimatebatmancomicswebsite.weebly.com for a timeline of Batman comics from Batman: Year One to Flashpoint,

Check out Lion Forge's Catalyst Prime Universe. Its the best damned superhero verse in comics. Diverse characters and interesting stories set in a universe where anyone can be a hero. And company that prides itself on representation both in the comics themselves and in the people behind them.
