Bruce Wayne is a man about town, He's one of Gotham's most prominent citizens, He may find hobnobbing with other rich people boring but he always knows how to behave and how to conduct himself
Keaton's Batman works best if taken as a deconstruction of Batman. This isn't what Batman is, but it's what Burton thinks a guy who dresses up like a bat would actually be like, someone who's completely messed up, has no idea what normal human interaction is, and has no moral code whatsoever.

Keaton seemed to be playing Bruce Wayne before Wayne was totally comfortable with the "Wayne image".
Besides, for acting, it's easier to default to a less accomplished secret identity as a contrast to the totally in control and confident costumed identity. That presents an immediate answer to the argument "Can't people see it's the same person?!?"

As a there was a theatrical release of Batman based on the 1966 TV series, I am going with Adam West as my favorite big screen Batman. And hey, Adam West was in as many big screen Batman movies
as Val Kilmer and George Clooney. In order of my favorite to least favorite. Not saying those at the bottom of the list were bad. They just didn't get my motor running.

    1. Adam West
    2. Michael Keaton
    3. Lewis Wilson
    4. George Clooney
    5. Christian Bale
    6. Ben Affleck
    7. Robert Lowery
    8. Val Kilmer
