Got around to reading Spawn 350 and its DNA is very similar to issue 100 in that its a culmination of a lot of story build up for the final fight in a wrestling sense and in this case a triple threat match. I thought it was fine as you have the long-standing feud coming to an end between Cog and Clown, Cog and Al having a final fight, and the reveal of Hell's new ruler dishing out her revenge on Cog since her death just before issue 300 while having major implications for the reset. It reads fast and I should have seen the new ruler coming after thinking about it some more and I'm curious what that reign will be like.

I think my biggest issue with this whole Throne of Hell event is the pacing/length. This is a 24-issue story - 20 from the main book and 4 from King Spawn - that could have been more if Gunslinger was also involved as solicitations noted and that is far too much for a story like this. As mentioned by Destro, this is Spawn and the attempts to have a Game of Thrones style story with different allegiances and such felt like padding than anything else. I looked back at the Urizen story that led to issue 100 and that was like 6-7 issues which was great. Sure you had the build up since the very first arc that Al would face Malebolgia at some point, but when the trigger was pulled to do that it was simple and epic that didn't waste much time. If that story was told today, it'd be like 18 issues or something of the Urizen battle then Al and Angela going through each circle of Hell to reach Malebolgia then a multi-issue fight and so on. With 4 books out this really didn't need to be so long especially when you consider that the main book does nothing with the Greenworld having half the dead zones when the next issue is all of them are open for good because of Spawn's and Haunt's trip to Heaven and a dumb attempt to tie the Batman/Spawn crossover to this when we know nothing was going to come of that. I get that was to reveal Nyx's return and expand on Greenworld and their fight in all of this, but I feel like that could have been handled better.

You could right after Al and Cog fight for the first time had Al goes straight to Heaven with Haunt to find the weapon (which in the end proves to do nothing) while Cog finds his way to Omega Island and into Hell then Al comes back realizing the dead zones are all open when Clown meets him and says Cog is in Hell already, lets team up. Al denies him, gets all of the allies and go to Hell, with now everyone there we get the mid battle twist that Cygor is with Greenworld revealing Nyx is back to the shock of everyone and backing Cataclysm and then the road to the triple threat match happens and we end up in the same spot just with less padding and more purpose. Handled like a DC/Marvel event that clearly involves all the books and each has its purpose, the story can be told more concisely as this 2 years of story is just bloated and if they do something like this again I hope its planned out better as having a good editor would help too, but I wonder how much of Todd is in this entire event.

As for the new landscape, like Blanks said, its familiar territory just expanded to have everyone be without powers so we'll see what comes of it as I really am sick of hearing about dead zones at this point. As for the New U of books to come for the rest of the year, its a lot but as expected most are going to be mini series as I suspect a number of these books like Misery and Spawn Kills Every Spawn have been done for some time and are now just coming out. I'm on the same bandwagon as everyone else on Rat City as I think that can be something fresh and new for the franchise, a curious choice to do a bi-monthly book with No Home Here that will have an extended page count, and I'm glad that She Spawn will be having her own book. Curious what Bloodletter and Spawn 77 are and I believe this is the first time we hear that Knights vs Samurai is a part of the Spawn Universe right? I remember last year when the project was picked up by Todd but didn't know it'd be part of this whole thing.

Knights vs samurai are from dark horse.

Spawn 77 seems to be based on the spawn from the 1970’s concept

And spawn is dealing with Bludd in the main series.

With the June 2024 solicitations now out, we have a new book alert and this time it is Misery which will be 4 issues with the same team as Sam & Twitch Case Files and the book will be out on June 5th. The solicit reads:

Cyan Fitzgerald is just a young woman trying to find her place in the world. As the daughter of Wanda Fitzgerald, the former wife of Al Simmons (aka Spawn), she has been endowed with incredible abilities - abilities that keep her cut off from those around her. Her journey into the darkness starts here.
Also, McFarlane.com has previews up for both this month's Sam & Twitch Case Files #1 and April's Rat City #1:

Nyx as queen of hell is seeming gonna be the new big bad going forward after malebolgia and mammon with sinn and clown out of the picture.

Feels like she is gonna try to take over the universe and take on Gaia and the other deities.

Spawn and the scorched will deal with new and lesser known spawn villains while struggling without their powers after previous villains were wiped clean. I feel they may have to regain their powers eventually

Damn, that's some very nice art

Question: Will the new Sam and Twitch book in continuity? I was confused with how Todd described it in a recent interview

Damn, that is really awesome art as expected by Sharp. Dark Ages sequel is easily one of my most anticipated projects out of all the new books announced outside of Rat City and No Home Here and having Sharp on writing and art duties should be good.

We are now in a post-350 world and its a mixed bag. First the positives - while a shame that the Vicerator story was cut short as a result of 350, having the Scorched reintroduce the Agency from the Haunt book is cool, and with Haunt being rather powerful in this new status quo should make for a good time. Wynn being the de facto leader of the new agency is old hat and reading the preview of the next issue made me scratch my head as to how that character could appear given how things went down in the Throne of Hell event. The main book tackles Bludd being in charge and Al's hopes to find the cure for vampirism. The introduction of a seemingly new Heaven character to possibly assist could be interesting.

The mixed - King Spawn is dealing with a Hell group forcing a confrontation between Spawn and Kruger who is one of the heads of another Hell group. To make this possible, they have kidnapped Granny Blake and attacked Terry and likely the next issue we'll meet Kruger. That said, these two issues moved so slow for me that you could have done them both in the same issue instead of having things be on repeat with Al torturing two same-looking characters with feral vampires and boardroom guys talking for two straight issues.

The bad - Gunslinger continues to not be good and it seems joining that book is the new Sam & Twitch Case Files because holy cow was that bad. No way you can convince me that Todd has had this in the chamber for years with how little is here that makes me wonder who this is for. For characters that have been around since issue 1 and have had, now including this, 4 series to their name the first issue gives you nothing as to where these characters now are for vets. Sam goes rogue on a CI, Twitch tries to cover for him, both get suspended but by issue's end it doesn't mean much cause a case is obviously headed their way. For those in the crime genre looking from the outside in, their isn't really anything here to sink your teeth into as we get the cliche someone dies opening and a bunch of bodies by issue's end (two solid double page spreads end the issue to Kudranski's credit) but not enough is here to know Sam & Twitch if you aren't already familiar with them and again even if you are with this new universe and just being legacy characters in general it doesn't work. I had a chance to reread the first issue and arc of the original Sam & Twitch book by Brian Michael Bendis recently, Todd would ironically finish that book with the last arc, and there is so much there that dances around this. I was also taken aback at no back matter and no explanation for that New U symbol the book has, unless you read online, doesn't mean anything but would have been a good opportunity to talk about all the new books coming for those that don't keep up with comic news. The first issue just left me not just cold but frigid like a book that Todd just had to put out instead of wanting to put out and I am somehow even less interested in Misery now given its the same team. With this being an ongoing, I hope Todd just does the first arc and then someone else takes over because if not this is a hard sell for me with just the first issue.

Eh Gunsligner from others is mixed but more positive I guess it is not your thing. Overtkill was also alive in the previews with a female haunt so you think old villain will stay dead was kinda wrong and Sam and twitch was enjoyable for some I guess it is just you and blanks along with a few others here. I think you guys just need to re read it. Deadly tales is coming as a prequel series to gunslinger alogn with medieval spawn, focus and monolith about being their new origins.

Plus she-spawn,spawn 77,violator,spawn kills every spawn, bloodletter, and knights be samurai
