Though when they started releasing those Power Piece videos (really sharp marketing), there was more the focus on the new cast members. I still love that Quicksilver one.

I forgot there was a Bishop Power Piece.

They so need to do something with this character (TV or otherwise).

One thing that stuck out for me spoilers:
Remember how the trailer reveals X-Men comics exist in the universe of this movie? And how some reaction to that was just weird? Well, watching Logan, something struck me about the use of those comics beyond just the whole "It contains the coordinates for Eden" angle.

Logan has been compared to a Western; Xavier and Laura/X-23 are watching Shane and she even quotes the film during her eulogy to Logan. Well, during the late 19th to early 20th century, there were "Dime Store Novels," which were considered cheap, sensationalist stories. The most popular ones were Westerns, featuring fictionalized accounts of real-life figures such as Jesse James, Buffalo Bill, Kit Carson, Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp, Billy the Kid, etc. Which, of course, enhanced their already legendary status. Thing is, the dime store novels are considered the literary ancestor of...you guessed it, comic books.

Thus in the world of Logan, comics are the dime store novels. Which not only further underscores the Western parallel, but that mutants, while real, are now all but extinct and considered figures of legend...just like the gunfighters of the Old West.

Want more? Gunslingers were considered outlaws, and were "hated and feared" while alive. Now we consider them almost heroic. In the world of Logan, mutants were hated and feared, too. But there are moments in the film where Logan encounters folks who, when they learn he's a mutant, don't react with fear, but rather with awe and respect, like the doctor who Laura brings to Logan. Which makes Xavier dream of humans no longer fearing mutants ironically and tragically fulfilled.
    end of spoilers
    Great catch.

To say this was heavily focused on the old cast when the bulk of the film was the actors from First Class is ignoring reality.

    No offense meant.
Well it was a sequel to the original cast movies, in terms of the fact that it took place after X-Men: The Last Stand, was a new adventure for them, it just so happened that their adventure took them back in time to the prequel cast.

And at that point, even though it features the prequel cast, it is no longer a prequel (though it contains prequel elements, giving us some history that would exist in the original timeline as well) due to the fact that time is now being changed, and these are NOT the events of the original timeline. So it becomes a dual sequel, acting as a sequel to both X-Men: First Class AND the original trilogy / X-Men: The Last Stand at the same time.

TLR version: it's a sequel to the original cast, using a new cast.

That is the closest summary, if you had stopped there. Even when you find out where Trask has been getting his ideas for modifying his Sentinels with mutant abilities, it is through experimentation on the remains of Emma Frost, Banshee, Azazel and Angel Salvadore. All characters from First Class. So though they blend the characters throughout the movie as some form of hand-off from the original cast to the new cast, it has a heavy concentration on the post-First Class characters.

Well yea, I don't think I ever really said otherwise.

But technically, despite being in 1973, it IS after X-Men: The Last Stand because the new 1973 is created after the events of the original trilogy.

Yes, it is a sequel to the original cast, using a new cast, and passing the torch so to speak on to that new cast.

It's one of those prequel/sequel/spin-off/reboot hybrids (not unlike Star Trek 09 in that regard).

It IS a sequel to The Last Stand for the old cast, and it IS a sequel to First Class in that it outlined the events after the 1960's appearances (along with pointing out the deaths of some of those characters). So if that is what you are saying, I would say we are aligned.

    Exactly!

"It really all started from X-Men: First Class, and the idea of being able to go back to the origins of Xavier and Magneto..."

$160 Million domestic, $444 million worldwide. Will pass Lego Batman tomorrow to be thetop grossing film of 2017 so far. Almost unheard of for an R rated movie.

Was Lego Batman also in 3D? Have to consider that as well. They make automatically more than regular movies.

I hold off on tracking for a few days because ever since last year with Deadpool's International Box Office constant readjustments, reporting sites have held off updating the numbers for a few days. Just the Domestic reflects change most probably due to ease of collection and validation.

And IMAX. With over 1,100 theaters across 69 countries, and prices being double the average ticket... But only the international ones count.
