Yes, just the living ones and solo music artists. No bands/groups. Just an individual.
So aside from:
Elton John
Celine Dion
Mariah Carey
Madonna
I think we should include Eminem.
Who else?

Ehhh wouldn't put Mariah Carey or Celion Dion but whatever.
Bryan Adams, Kendrick Lamar will be a legend/probs is, Beyonce post Destiny Child, Jay Z, Nas, Phil Collins.
Can't say Bruce Springsteen because that discredits E Street Band
No man is an island. All the greatest music I can think of, even if there's only one person's name on the album cover, has been made in collaboration with others. Co-writers, producers, other musicians.
Carole King, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Nancy Wilson, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton among the ladies.
Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen (has had success with and without the E-Street Band), Paul McCartney among the gents. Maybe Quincy Jones, who's produced everybody from Dinah Washington and Ray Charles to Michael Jackson.
Is Pavarotti still alive?

"Just the living ones" cuts out almost everyone I'd want to name.
Still alive:
Bob Dylan
Leonard Cohen probably
How about Billy Joel?
Avatar: Here's to the late, great Steve Dillon. Best. Punisher. Artist. EVER!
I'd like to put forward Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
And Paul McCartney too, I suppose.
Well, I'd delete both Mariah Carey and Celine Dion from your list for a start. Hysterical screeching is the polar opposite of musical greatness as far as I'm concerned. In fact the only name on your list that I'd agree with is Elton John. Maybe Madonna too, I can't ignore her enduring popularity and variety of musical output over the years. The others? No chance.
Your no group/bands rule makes this quite difficult. I'd say all the members of The Beatles bar Ringo Starr (sorry Ringo!) for example, but much of their legend is intrinsically tied to that band. With that in mind:
Bob Dylan
Joni Mitchell
Neil Young
Elvis Presley
Bruce Springsteen (although it doesn't do justice to the E Street Band to omit them)
Aretha Franklin
That ilk of artist basically. I don't really judge an artist's merit on how many YouTube viewings they receive.
Nice idea for a thread RLAAMJR
Eminem for 100% sure.

How are we defining a "legend", tho?
