What we used to call life has very little worth these days. Welcome to the very edge.

You broke your own rule, Michael Lark was working in the industry by the mid 90s.

But a lot of people responding have posted people who were working in the industry pre-2000 as well.

Lark, Yu, Ba/Moon, Cassaday, Capullo, Coipel, Quitely, Pope, Marcos Martin, and others listed were all working in the industry in the 90s.

Among those who debuted post-2000 that I really like are Francesco Francavilla, Declan Shalvey, Stephen Mooney, Becky Cloonan, Fiona Staples, Sean Murphy, and Jeff Lemire.

Shalvey is one artist I've thoroughly enjoyed in recent years, who had shown continual improvement on already amazing artwork.

Karl Kerschel is also up there, between his web comic work and his recent DC stuff.

Debuted after 2000? I was kinda just going for people who did most of their best work after 2000, but okay:

    Tony Moore
    Fiona Staples

Man, I guess that's about it.

A lot of people here pre-date 2000 but never mind.

Ones who I've been impressed with recently (who may also break the 2000 rule unknown to me):
    Karl Kerschel
    Fiona Staples
Marcos Martin (I only know him from post-2000 work)
Jeff Lemire (though in fairness, I think his writing is the big draw for me)
    Sean Murphy

I thought Lark's earliest work was in 2002? What did he do in the 90's?

The last two would be high on my list but they did work before 2000
