If I'm being 100% honest with myself, I still feel like the red/yellow balance on superman's costumes have been way too one sided since they took the trunks away.

Yeah. I agree, but I still maintain that this one is an improvement over the previous design.

Pity it's a design for a Superman not native to the current continuity.

    Negatives:

    • Hey; it's Superman Blue! I don't mind the absence of the red trunks (I'm fine either way on that); but the blue boots in addition to that makes the whole thing a little too blue.
    • …and Wonder Spartan. Could we please lose the sword and shield as part of her default look? Let her have the KC Golden Eagle Armor for cases where she knows violence will be unavoidable, and have her weild sword and shield then.
    • Great; now Damian has co-opted Tim's staff, too.

    Positives:
    • from the waist up, this is classic Superman.
    • I actually like the Spartan-esque skirt and the cape, though I'd rather the latter be a bit more of a cloak (that is, covering the shoulders) than a cape.
    • I like Damian's overall samurai look.
    Rogue wears rouge.
    Angel knows all the angles.

Neal Adam's Superman design for Coming of the Supermen was perfect. Classic costume, but with a gold-banded belt. Ah well, I'll just continue to yearn for the day they bring his red trunks back. At least the next DC reboot should be in the next 5 years or so.

If they gave Clark some red boots, that look would be perfect.

Agree. This an improvement, but I don't know that it will stick permanently. I hope we don't end up with an endless series of variations of the original that don't quite work. This is the danger of trying to modernize such an iconic design.

I wonder what Jim Lee makes of the latest costume changes. If he thought he was designing Superman's permanent new look when he was doing the New 52 costume, it must suck to revert back to so much of the old version five years later. But maybe it's all just a way to sell books and he never had that expectation.

Would be nice if Superman's boots were red. Not feeling the Damian with the staff(seems more suited for Tim), he takes me more as a sword guy. Other then that, liking the designs.

Why the surprise? We've known about them almost as long as we've known about Rebirth.

I prefer red boots in general, but I think blue boots balance the colors better in the new version. Wish the new boots had the traditional shape at the top, though.

This fan version works better for me than any of DC's redesigns:

Not a fan of Harley's GI Jane getup or the continued blue-ification of Superman, but everyone else looks fine. Also, lose the staff Damian. That kid is becoming a less likable Tim Drake.

Just color the boots red. I don't seee why that would be so hard.
