Maybe that's what The Fallen one-shot is for.

I rather see Rhodey with an upgraded, redesigned, and advanced Eidolon Warwear than killed off, blown up, and so on.

And it appears we had something like happening in Cap: Sam Wilson #10.

Great issue and a very good tribute to Rhodey, imho.

Iron Man & Warbird versus War Machine

To me, Warbird and War Machine had a marvelous first encounter. The War Machine suit certainly was able to withstand enormous devastating impacts in it's day

That wasn't Rhodes. He quit being War Machine back then and someone else was in the suit

Bendis saying Tony never upgraded his suit in Civil War II wasn't even true.
    We need better comics

The only two writers that I feel have put work on the character or at least my two fav versions have been Priest and Pak . If War Machine ever gets a chance at his own film in the MCU please someone look at those runs

God, writers just love to crap on War Machine. The tease us with him possibly becoming president, they actually show him having a more in depth relationship with Carol Danvers on panel just so they can kill him. Wow. This was one black hero who definitely was not define by his race and have took the proper steps into becoming a great hero. It's a shame they killed and made him a prop to push a silly storyline that probably wouldn't even exist had the movie not come out.

They would make a cool team I think.
That to me is why he isn't a bigger character in the comics. He needs more focus on his personal life instead of the military and the armor. I really enjoyed the interaction he had with his father in the Iron Patriot series.

There is a reason for that.I was reading this.

[Marvel] Tony Stark has upgraded the Iron Man suit to keep pace with his enemies, but War Machine is just an old Iron Man suit. Why is War Machine still able to compete? (
Tony's got 42 but they're all specialised for specific tasks. He feels like without his suit he's nothing so he needs one for every foreseeable event. Many of them are also just prototypes and not necessarily ready for combat. The war machine suit is a great all rounder. For a terrestrial and conventionally armed taliban style force it'll do, hell it's great. It's just not designed for taking on Gods and aliens. By the end of the extremis event Tony realises he is more than just a man even without a suit for every single occasion and destroys them all.

So many people forget that they're mostly untested prototypes. Tony was going a bit nuts, he was jumping from one design to the next without bothering to finish them.
He didn't do that when he was upgrading Rhodey's suit (which he did pre-Avengers) from all of the crap Hammertech to top of the line Stark Tech. The base of the War Machine suit might've been the Mark II, but Tony upgraded it to be at least the equal of the Mark VI, which was only a few steps behind the Mark VII. And none of the other suits were really that much stronger than the Mark VII, though the Silver Centurion armor was a logical next step....
In short: War Machine = Mark II suit with add-ons.
Iron Patriot = Mark VI suit with add-ons and additional systems planned for the Mark VII.

So Rhodey/Bendis never said he did not get a upgrade.
Rhodey just wanted a more updated or more advanced suit.

Been over a year since Rhodey got killed in the comics. Damn shame.

Looks like the MCU will have to lead the way for Rhodey portrayals. Considering there won't be any Iron Man movies anytime soon, there won't be many opportunities.

Assuming Rhodey shows up in Infinity War, I hope he also shows up in Captain Marvel's solo and that Rhodey's relationship with Carol is touched on. They don't have to pair them together, good friends would be cool.

I could just live with him getting plenty of cool stuff to do in Infinity War.

I feel like he kind of deserves/needs it by this point .
