They told the story of that cover in a spoofy short story a few months ago. Don't remember what book it was in. Basically, the guy was screaming in panic all the time and could not near Peter revealing his secret ID.

Realizing his mistake, Spider-Man attempts to confuse the criminal by assuming a new identity in Spider-Man #1, in fact his ploy was so effective it even confused the narrator.

This scene doesn't happen in the story. Also, it would be impossible to tie Reed up without his cooperation.

Ah, back when FF readers didn't need to be told that a scene didn't happen in the book. The good old days.

I only bought this because I thought Captain Marvel was in it. The blurb even proudly states, "And now... Captain Marvel!" But she was nowhere to be found inside.

Which also how we ended up with Bruce Banner being Bob Banner in one issue. Which, in turn, was the cause of Bruce Banner's middle name being revealed as Robert.

Perhaps Peter Parker's middle name is Palmer?

Whoa, Nellie! I never knew! HA! I wonder if Pete was related to Baltimore Orioles' Hall of Famer Jim Palmer?

In the first issue of She Hulk, Lee references his gaffe by saying something like "call him Bruce, or Bob or even David,"

Just for the record, Peter's middle name is "Benjamin," but maybe Pete's parents used the last name "Palmer" as an alias during their CIA days, and the ruse worked so well that the narrator got confused.

Stan also was referencing the controversy over the Bill Bixby television version where he played David Banner, because the network felt the name "Bruce" was .... not appropriate.

If by "not appropriate," you mean homosexual, then I will let Stan Lee explain.
