With this book, Valiant has launched its massive summer 2016 crossover event. Since their return in 2012, Valiant has made their crossover event an eagerly anticipated property and 2016's entry simply raises the bar higher.
With Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain, it continues the feel for the world of 4001 which followers of Rai have gotten used to. This team has worked together for a long enough time that they perfectly compliment each others strongest elements so that the end result is a written and visual enjoyment fest. While it might be helpful for the reader to have followed Rai before, it certainly is not necessary to do so to understand and get all that is going on in the world of 4001.
At it's basic core, this is no more complicated than the perpetual fight of good against evil, and what constitutes each side of that debate. This truly is a "page turner" for sure and you will (as with most Valiant crossover events) with more questions at the start than answers, but believing that time WILL reveal all. It is fast paced and clearly demonstrates how whether it is today or in the 4001 world, Valiant truly is the master of such summer blockbusters and has only gotten better with age as they continue to do this. There is something for everyone in this and I can personally say that with having looked forward to this, Kindt, Crain, Mack and Valiant have done nothing short of exceed expectations with this kickoff issue.
When it comes to summer crossovers, there is Valiant and then everybody else. It's not even close anymore.
