That was my Plan B if I couldn't find someone being kicked in the family jewels.

Pretty much everything counts in these contests.
Unset gemstones, people made of diamand aren't jewels either, although people called Jewel are, I suppose. People called Jewell are borderline.

    personally?

I think Family Jewels, Jewel Staite, etc. . are lazy, and not near as clever as some think they are.

I guess is just annoys me that it's not in the spirit of the contest.

(and yes, I feel that way despite being friendly with Michael P, and being pretty good friends with DonC (good friends?. .heck, we've slept together))

If you don't like it don't complain about it, just don't vote for it. That's always been the way we've played it, and that's why this is my favorite thread on CBR because it's relatively free from the nitpicking that infests everything else. Lawyerin' and criticizing entries is the thing that's not in the spirit of the contest, unless it's something benign like pointing out "Hey that's not a comic book!"

We've always been pretty laid back about "the rules." Part of the fun is sometimes finding covers that stretch beyond what the original poster intended.

Like Shawn said, if you don't think something fits the concept then simply don't vote for it.

I have always fealt that subverting the intent of the theme as much as possible is entirely within the spirit of the game and half the fun.

Yeah, me, too. I'm always interested in how people are going to interpret the theme. I tend to play it pretty straight, but sometimes I'm impressed by the cleverness of other posters.

    I didn't complain.

A question was asked, so I answered.

which is the only reason I commented on it.

What Shawn said. And others have echoed. It seems like this comes up about every few months in one the the contest threads.

It's nice to look all the pretty covers , even if they " don't fit the theme". It's good for a laugh , smile or a change of pace. Since I started submitting covers a few years ago, It's been my favorite forum activity on a weekly basis.

As the Commish for this week's contest, frankly I don't give a flying frig...just have fun. Personally I think a kick in the jewels and Jewel Saite as covers shows they didn't read the rules, but its Sunday and the contest is almost over.

    I'll allow it.
