Long time watcher of TMNT but first time reader. Ordered The Ultimate Collection by Eastman and Laird. SO GOOD! I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to pick up a TMNT comic.

Not familar with Campbell so I did a wiki.
Seems fairly young in the comic business with no work that stood out to me. A decade in comics and nothing of merit isn't inspiring so IDW must feel good for 'x' reason(s). Help me know what those are. Big shoes to fill on this title!

The thing I find most interesting about the Jennika situation is I recall a story that when either Eastman or Laird sold his interest to the other (I can't remember which of the two it was) his stipulation was ABSOLUTELY NO FEMALE TURTLES EVER (the sale came not long after the Next Mutation and the creator in question was soured by Venus)! Even as a youngster in the 1990s/early 2000s I thought this was a dick move not to mention smacking of misogyny. I hope this is just an urban legend and not true. Does anyone know if this stipulation is/was real?

Sophie Campbell (formerly Ross Campbell) has done a bit of work on TMNT and has been working with IDW for years. Campbell has a really nice art style and I'm sure her work will be great.

I think Venus got as much hate as she did because the show itself was horrible. The Next Mutation is pretty cringe worthy (super cheap production values, bad costumes, worse than Power Rangers plots and acting, etc). No matter how interesting a character Venus could've been, she never stood a chance being on that show.
As for Jennika, she's a fairly interesting character and as long as the stories are written well (which most of the IDW stories are) I'm sure she'll be a good addition to the series. Most likely, she'll either get killed or perhaps go on to lead another team (like the Mutanimals) away from the 4 brothers. There's no way the dynamic of the 4 brothers will change permanently to include the 5th member (no matter if it's a male or female turtle).
I've often thought that it would be interesting to see Venus return to the comics in a serious manner. IDW has been great about melding all of the various incarnations of the turtles (they've pretty much adopted characters, stories, etc, from all of the various cartoon and comic series). Venus could've been an interesting addition. Perhaps Jennika will end up being "Venus"...who knows. I look forward to seeing what Sophie brings us.
In the last issue of TMNT Urban Legends (I didn't remember it from the originals) the Turtles were on a roof in front of a Shop, and one of them (I don't recall who) said something like: This is the place where we watched porn when we were kids
Lol, I always thought of the Turtles as non sexual beings (Ninja Turtles, that is)
It was also mid 90s Image and this was a radical reimagining and more mature take on the Turtles.
I don't think I read past issue 12 at that time so I'm getting into parts of the story I don't recall....like their porn watching theater. Or at least I don't recall its, it was that much of a non-impact read for me at the time. I told myself I was going to find them at my parents house last Christmas when I was there but got sidetracked.

I picked up issue 100 late, but I'm shocked to see there was no discussion about this issue. What were your thoughts? I am behind and still catching up but I was not passing up this issue and I loved it. Really great story telling.

Interesting trade off that has occurred, both for reader and in-universe characters.
In TMNT stories we've gone without Shredder before and addressed how/what that can look like. However, no Splinter? Also the fact he seems to be very much as peace as we saw him reunited with his wife makes one wonder what would force him out of that.
Where we go with Jenny's development and life change should be interesting. Focused in her Feb mini-series should be lots to reveal. What is Hob up to? No way we've seen the last of Bishop.
I'm very curious about the Leatherhead Ronin mini.

Sophie crushed it.
Retro315 no more. Anonymity is so 2005.

Exactly this, if you thought the book was going to wander a little with out the usual creative team Campbell put that worry to rest real quick as she delivered a silent look at the Turtles cradling their dead father and his subsequent funeral...all in the first couple pages. It was a powerful start that really made you feel like this wasn't just some filler story but an incredibly important chapter in the evolution of the Turtles.
