Been away for a few months, do I need to read the current crossover story before Rebirth?

Been out of it for a few months, and noticed Superman is in the middle of a 8 part crossover story. Do I need to read this story arc before Rebirth? Does this lead into Rebirth, or is it a nice wrapping up story for the New 52 Superman before they change things for Rebirth?

I doubt it.

You should be able to pick up Superman: Rebirth and follow along well enough. That's a big and obvious jumping-on point so they'll make sure readers like you aren't lost.

However, this story has been fairly decent, with a strong start and what appears to be a strong finish (middle issues lagged some) so you might consider checking it out on its own merits.

Plus it helps set up the status quo going forward for Supergirl and the new Chinese Super-Man, possibly even Superwoman. So if you're curious about those books, this is what lays the groundwork for them.

Yeah I agree. Superman: Rebirth seems to sum up the current story well enough.

But to be honest, the current story isn't worth a whole arc. It story enough for 3 issue MAX.

I feel the set up for Supergirl and Super-Man will be better handled in their books, so if you want to save 8 bucks on the issues they show up in you can just wait.

The Rebirth books are only $3 (US) so you'd be saving a bit of money if you just wait a bit.

I would at least read Superman Lois & Clark 1-8....that fills in quite a few gaps plus it's a good read.

Like someone else said, if you have the spare cash and do want some back ground, check out Lois & Clark 1-8.
