It does, doesn't it? I mean... It's so weird to think about it in retrospect, but if there ever was a moment when they could have definitely made the big jump and make their superhero stories a bit more mature, diversified and "artistic", it was during that era, when the borders between Vertigo-esque (or perhaps I should say pre-Vertigo-esque) comics and mainstream comics were more rarefied. They were sitting on a gold mine, and they didn't know it.
