Now to be fair, we're talking about within a fictional world where there actually are other races on other planets. That said, while I completely understand things like "the white savior" and whatnot to be avoided (to offset the past) when it comes to Earth-based stories, when it comes to alien races I don't mind a little institutional species-ism. I mean everybody loves Guardians of the Galaxy and that's clearly an example of the guy from Earth going and pulling together others to save the day. It's fantasty, it's OK. No real aliens are being offended. They have much bigger problems with constantly being treated as evil invaders.

That said, there are certainly plenty of counter examples - Star Wars doesn't have an Earthlings at all.

Future type stories that see our characters x years from now

Cameos with little hearing on the book, if you want a guest star, then let them be a major part not a few panels and teaser cover.

Immortality means you can be killed, but won't die of disease or old age.

Invincibility means you can't be killed (like in battle or whatever), but can still grow old and die.

There's also the kind of Immortality that makes you Invincible also like Vandal Savage.

You mean like Mr Freeze's wife? Or stories about cryogenically frozen people being revived in the future?

Immortal means not mortal. It doesn't mean difficult to kill. Google the definition.

Writers don't et to change the meanings of words.

Actually they kinda can since they are making the story...

Well maybe I'll write a story in which mortal means can't die. I'll include a glossary in the back of the new meanings of the words I've changed.

A writer can do whatever the hell they want. Is it a good idea to make up your own words or change meanings for no reason? No, but the writer can and has before.

Yes, because the most important thing about a story is semantics.

Obviously we need to make up a new word for people who will never die of natural causes, but can have their lives ended by external forces.
