That's generally what I do. It depends on how he's written. If he's written as he traditionally was (including in Frank Miller's Daredevil), I go with the Spider-Man animated series. If it's Ben did or some of the other recent ones, I go with D'onofrio.

Kingpin is my favorite Marvel villain. He has a good side to him as well though... As we all know from the Miller run, he quited the crime life and moved to japan for a while, so he doesn't want to be criminal especially for his wife, he really loves her. His love for his wife is one of good aspects of him.

He can be pretty ruthless though, i love that. A true crime lord.

Like a lot of uber villains, I think The Kingpin sees himself as beyond laws and other such constraints used to maintain order among lesser people. He'd rather live peacefully, but if there's something he thinks needs doing, or something he wants, no silly rules are going to hold him back. What's more, he's aware of all those silly rules, and makes his plans in such a ways as to either use them, or evade them.

In my head canon, he acknowledges himself as a "crimelord" simply to communicate with those of more limited understanding.
