Default Do you think the plan is to bring back New52 Superman

The title says it all. Do you think that everything that is happening in the Rebirth storyline will involve New52 Superman's resurrection?

Personally, I I'm almost positive that'll he'll come back. I just think that they wanted to make sure the reader know that it won't go down the same it did in the past. However, there the involvement of Oz, the Legion and the Lana revelation points to him coming back another way.

    spoilers:
The fact that pre-Flashpoint Superman was said to be an exact genetic duplicate of THE NEW 52 Superman in the Rebirth special tells me they're going to probably go with a merger-type scenario where somehow pre-FP Superman is N52 Superman, and it will be explained accordingly.

Well it would make sense for them to be a genetic match, like how Supergirl and Power Girl are.

well the whole death of New 52 Superman involved a character, "Solarman", who had absorbed some of his powers and memories when he unleashed his solar flare. the Chinese scientist was even able to collect his energy and give it to one of her subjects. we've heard that the Chinese Superman Kenan Kong not only gets Superman's powers but some of his more noble and heroic traits. almost like he's taking in Superman's spirit. two bolts of light shot out of Kal when he died and hit Lois and Lana and now Lois has superpowers and Lana seems to know a lot more about her best friend Clark.
so there are a lot of signs pointing to New 52 Superman's essence/soul/energy being given to these characters. which means he's technically still around and it also means he can easily be brought back if DC chooses to do so. or even combined with preFlashpoint Superman.

I don't think even they know at this point. I think to some degree they're playing it by ear and seeing how all this pans out with fans and may make a decision a year or so from now. The last few months show they are more than willing to change a story halfway through to accommodate changes in ideas.

Honestly. No I dont see him coming back. I mean he's literally ashes in a jar. It's kind of hard to come back from that.

Sigh. I don't know. I go back and forth. A lot. He should. I don't know if he will though.

Since I want it to happen though, since it should happen since he shouldn't have been killed off in the first place, I'll vote "probably will come back" for now. Tomorrow I'll say certainly. The next day I'll say certainly not, and so on. But the four bolts of energy, Lana knowing things only he knew, and Lois gaining his powers can all be construed as possible pieces of evidence that they're setting the table up for his eventual revival, via, essentially, what I had once outlined as a horcrux-like theory. Only instead of the superflares leaving pieces of him behind, its the four bolts when he died. Two parts of him went into Lana and Lois. The other two are mysteries for a while (My bets would be on Lex and Jimmy).

There's probably somewhat of a play it by ear factor going on. But I mean, I think this would have to exceed their wildest imaginations or bomb on an epic level to change their minds on whatever they're leaning to right now. And I don't see either scenario likely, I doubt much will change, so whatever they're setting up now will probably end up what they do. And if you twist my arm I think there's probably enough evidence in just #52 and Rebirth alone to at least suggest some initial cards are being put into place.

. I mean he's literally ashes in a jar. It's kind of hard to come back from that.
Not in comics it isn't. The state of his remains is in fact pretty irrelevant considering the medium we're in. Innumerable ways around that. A whole lot of them probably cheap and lame, sure, but innumerable ways nonetheless.

Hmm, never really thought of those two other bolts. You could be on to something there. Kenan may also be a key to this as well. They say that every team has both a general direction for the universe and a specific one for their stories. It's clear to me that they have SOMETHING planned. Something that involves Oz, the Legion, and the Super League. We just got to look at this like it's own story and not a rendition of the past.

I'd lean towards something coming back, but not necessarily Superman as he's been for the past 5 years. I suspect the whole transfer of powers thing is a hint that when the character returns he will have a different (though possibly similar) power-set and be called by a name other than Superman. Unless the Superdad character bombs I suspect he is going to keep the Superman name, look and powers and his new-52 counterpart will be ret-conned into something else. Within five years barring another reboot both characters will be pared down so they are connected but Superdad will be from the current DCU and Nuperman will either be a brief replacement Superman or have his time as Superman totally "forgotten" (by the DCU not by fans).

I've just read Superman Rebirth and I felt the whole purpose of the issue seemed to be to kill off all expectation of Nu Supes returning. Was that just me?

*Sigh* I don't know. I suppose that it depends on Ozymandias' secret knowledge. But at this point it is almost irrelevant.

IF he had had a proper sendoff, maybe there would be a chance of getting him back - the sense of loss would be stronger, and therefore his return would make more sense IMHO. But his death wasn't significative by any means. He was killed by a completely forgettable villain who will never return and whose motivations were void. I really hate to say it, but Jurgens' classic Death of Superman - which I never liked - was way more memorable in using destructo-porn to make the story significative.

At the same time, there isn't a real sense of loss, either. We don't have four Superman replacements, but a character who is an exact copy of the dead Superman. He share the same ethics and mission, and he could become a regular for an indefinite time. I seriously doubt that Metropolis will suffer because of the absence of Nuperman.

That's why I say it is irrelevant. This whole SuperDad Returns storyline could be the real thing, or just temporary situation, and it wouldn't change much. God, it's amazing how incredibly uninteresting the whole story is.
Educational town, Rolemodel city and Moralofthestory land are the places where good comics go to die.

DC writers and editors looked up and shouted "Save us!"
And Alan Moore looked down and whispered "No."

I'm kinda surprised Snyder didn't want Superman to watch Lois and Bruce conceive their love child. All the while singing the "Na na na na na na Batman!" theme song - Robotman, 03/06/2021

No, New 52 Superman won't be back, and I suspect it will turn out that he was never Superman to begin with.

One big plot point is that post-Crisis Superman is the only one, along with Lois, who retains memories of the pre-Flashpoint universe. Even Wally West was starting to lose those memories once he was fully integrated into the physical world. There's something unique and significant about Superman that we've yet to see.

To reveal he was never really Superman at all would be the dumbest thing they could possibly do. Not only does it require even more confusing retconning, there's a "simpler" answer staring everyone right in the face that is both respectful to both characters and fans of both characters and makes the most sense to boost.

They're both this world's Superman. Superdad and Mama Lois were just taken by Brainiac before the Flashpoint changes. That's all. One's Superman before Earth-0 was changed. One's Superman after Earth-0 was changed. That's what's unique about Superdad. That he was perfectly preserved somewhere else entirely (Telos) and thus completely unaffected, unlike Wally.

If one looks at Earth-0 like an operating system and Dr. Mannhattan's work as an upgrade to a new version, the Superman and Lois case is just a situation where instead of overwriting existing files, new data was compiled because there was nothing to overwrite, the files in question were previously deleted, or more accurately cut and pasted somewhere else. But those new files from empty space fit just as naturally in with the overwritten files because they're all still designed to work together and implemented at the same time. If I delete key operating system files, then perform an reinstall of the OS, the replacements of those files are no different and no more out of place than the files that had to overwrite an existing copy to get there.

So that's how Superdad is "not who he thinks he is". Because he's not from a dead world, he's from a changed world, and he's been back on that world the whole time. In a way he's Taylor from Planet of the Apes, How is New 52 Superman not who he seems to be? That has yet to be answered, but there is no worse answer than "wasn't ever Superman at all". That's cheap and a kick to the pants to his fans, whom DC themselves invited over 5 years ago and allowed to get invested in during that time.

Superman rebirth is a waste of time .. DC tell us "Death of Superman" for nothing ... A useless pages.

HOPE? I have none now .. I would be surprised that DC did he return again as another hero..

It more explained why Superdad chooses to come out in the open. His idea doesn't work and he has no other ideas so he feels the world will need a Superman so he takes the role. But just because he doesn't know how to bring Superman back doesn't mean that he won't. All this does within the narrative is make Superdad and Lana believe he's gone for good, little more.
