"Making more Sense" was just meant in that way, that apart from having kind of a friendship (even if only shown in on issue) Kid Devil is a character that is (pre flashpoint) much closer to Jasons age and is not a close friend of Dick or Tim or a iconic member of the Titans or Young Justice.
And while Roy and Jason were together on the Titans, they weren't really more close that Jason was with the rest of the team (Jason had iirc the more interaction with Donna than with Roy).

I just finished reading the issue. Man the feels! Really sad to see this book end.

I've been putting off reading this book because I'm so sad to see it end.
It was a gut wrencher. The only thing that I thought was missing was one more scene with Roy's reaction.
Lobdell has done a great job with this book and was spot on. He stayed true to the characters and didn't wreck either of them at the expense of the other.
