As I dont really follow sales data that closely I cant say, but Civil War II doesnt seem to be generating the buzz the first one did and appears to be getting a hefty amount of negative criticism.
But lets not forget that the Rebirth hype is still running strong and initiatives like this always start off well.
When this has been around for six months to a year, let's see how well DC's market share is holding up. That'll be the real test of Rebirth's success, not the short-term gains we're looking at right now.

I gave up on Marvel again for the time being when they let me down with the Dead No More storyline. I was all set to jump on board then they revealed it was about clones. Again. Comics are by their very nature repetitive, but Marvel's gone above and beyond lately, and have just screamed phoning it in for years now. The only effort they seem to put in is making sure their books sync with their crappy (albeit popular) movies.

Maybe you're just not reading the right books? Mighty Thor has been a lot of fun (obviously the Odinson will return when this runs its course so I just sit back and enjoy the ride), and Ms. Marvel is always a blast, its right up there with Invincible as far as Im concerned. I've also enjoyed Daredevil well enough, Old Man Logan (likely better as a trade wait though, those issues feel thin), and Spider-Gwen (though it has been a bit rocky lately). And my wife adores the Spider-Woman and Black Widow titles. And the world building and character work in Black Panther has been wonderful and more than makes up for the fact that T'Challa himself doesnt get a ton of panel time. And pretty much anything Al Ewing writes is worth reading. His Ultimates is easily the best Justice League book I've read since Morrison and an excellent follow-up to Hickman's Avengers World construct.
Actually got more Marvel on my pull list than I do DC these days by a pretty wide margin, for the first time in at least a decade and a half.
Of course, you're right that they're far too obsessed with movie synergy, but you can't blame them either. Those movies make more in a weekend than the entire comics division in six months, trying to catch some of that magic in their comics is something they almost have to try to do.
I really hope chasing movie synergy is something DC manages to avoid. The short-term gains seem negligible, it only seems to really benefit lesser known characters (Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Iron Man back in 2008) and DC's movie characters, other than Cyborg, already have a pretty high cultural profile.

Well to be fair Marvel has the most successful advertising for the world in the last 20 years. Their universe is also a bit more coherent as a whole. On a personal note, they've had Hickman, Gillen, Aaron, Fraction, Coates, King, and Ewing working for them. That's not even mentioning the AMAZING artist that they keep in a forever headlock.
But as of late and as a whole, Marvel has just been this ridiculous mess. "Civil War 2?" Seriously, Marvel?! Reading their current books--save a select few--is nearly impossible. They've turned into something ugly.
DC's public image is not as strong so they've got way more to prove. So far they're doing a good job of fixing that on the comic side of things. Now they just have to land without crashing.
Thanks guys, I'll keep those suggestions in mind!

The currently on-going Squadron Supreme is pretty good, and I liked the two most recent volumes of Howard the Duck (Now concluded).
Squadron Supreme sticking on my subscription list ties Marvel with DC Comics as having one sub each, that's if you count Justice League of America, which had one new issue in like the past four months or so and who's future seems to be in doubt (I'm keeping it because it features the new52 Superman, in theory). Add Black Science, from an indie publisher, and that's about it.
I'm not saying Marvel is great- clearly, I don't really go for their more popular titles, but considering how much better I like the DC Comics characters and universe *in theory*, it's pretty remarkable that Rebirth has soured me on DC Comics so much that it's a dead heat (Actually, advantage Marvel, if you consider that JLA is probably not in active publication).
DC Comics is the one that's blown it in terms of editorial decisions. Sure, Rebirth is selling well now. We'll see where it's at in a couple years.
One of the things I like about the Rebirth books right now (and really soured me on Marvel about a decade ago) is that the heroes in the books I'm pulling seem to be acting like heroes, without the mindless in-fighting and bickering. I know there was some of that in New 52, but Justice league really seems to have a superfriends vibe going for it (which is a compliment).
I recommend you read the current Ms. Marvel title, it is genuinely a pretty good read.
"Crappy" isn't the word that I would associate with the films by Marvel Studios (Fox's Marvel films however apart from Deadpool and First Class and Future's Past have been terrible), if anything the weakest movies from Marvel Studios have been average at worst (which is a lot better than the mess that is the DCEU especially BVS although I do like MOS)
No matter how many reboots, new origins, reinterpretations or suit redesigns. In the end, he will always be SUPERMAN
