I keep meaning to give the new JL a try but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm hit or miss with Snyder.

I don't understand a word of it but it is very well drawn and there's lots of big sprawling action beats. Give it a go.

It’s pretty good. I’d say I’m enjoying it as much as I enjoyed Johns JL.

Hmmm. I’m curious to see how many units and how steep the drops are.

    Comments From Retailers

Six DC titles, four Marvel–but the surprise was how rapidly Superman dropped. Even with three covers, it failed to make our store’s top five this week, and was only four copies away from not even making the Top Ten. Readers like Bendis’s dialogue, but the complaint is that the story isn’t going anywhere. Catwoman took #1 based on the stunning variant cover art; Fantastic Four was Marvel’s best-selling title at fourth place.

The pace definitely needs to pick up. It was my fear during the MOS weekly. The pace worked there because it was weekly but I remembered musing that same pace wouldn't cut it monthly. Unfortunately for Superman, that pace has remained and indeed its not optimal.

I was afraid of this. Bendis would really be better off making his Superbooks bimonthly. It would make the pacing easier to swallow. As it is we’ve spent 3 issues of Supes running around screaming that he has no clue what’s going on, while Rogal schemes in the background.

Bendis should sacrifice some of his creator-owned series to write SM/AC bi-monthly. Currently he's the writer of around 6 monthly books.

For what it's worth, these issues have been heavy on character exploration and giving us good scenes of Superman stopping disasters all over the world.

And that’s good, but it’s not going to stop the bleeding. Bendis in the past has been good at character building, but crap at plotting. He takes too long to get to the payoff, when he gets there at all. However the pacing issues so far have mostly been confined to Superman. Action Comics I have no problems with the plot pace. But that also is what I expected based on Bendis past work: He’s good at city stuff, not so much with big cosmic stuff.

I wouldn’t mind him eventually passing the Superman book to someone else and focusing on Action Comics, but I hope he gets to tell his story first. It all comes down to sales though. 40k is the cutoff I think.
