I repeat: this is overkill. I'm fine with him doing his job, but surely he isn't vital to the substance of every single project DC cranks out.

I do like most heroes to have armor costumes altho it is taking me some time to get used to armor Flash punching it out with Superman.

It is strange. Especially for otherwise untouchable characters like Superman or Supergirl. But I believe Flash was able to get some good jabs in there before, without special armor, due to his speed force whatsit.
