List your top 5 X-Men writers without Chris Claremont

Just speaking for myself, I thought he did some good stuff with Scott and with Emma, but his take on Kitty was regressive, I found a lot of the dialogue to be more quotable than memorable, and he hopped on board the "OMG, Professor Xavier is sooo ebil you guyz!" train with Danger, a character I disliked then and came to loathe more with every writer who got their hands on her. And of course the art was fantastic, but I can't give Whedon much credit for that. So it's a mixed bag. I didn't hate the Whedon run, but it's not in my top five.

I'm not too fond of his run myself, but I was under the impression that most people considered his run definitive next to Claremonts.

I agree that the art out shined the writing.

Only one vote for Whedon? I thought he would be the obvious choice.

It is a little surprising but on reflection maybe people got past the name and looked at the stuff he wrote objectively. It's not bad there is some good character work there and he introduced Armor who became one of my favourite X Kids. He bought X Men back to basics on why it's entertaining it's all about family but that was also maybe the downfall of his run it was just...safe. Nothing he did was particularly different or astounding but it was X Men. Always felt that run was a little average. Still trying to work out my list my top 3 would be fairly easy but working out #4 and #5 is a little more tricky.

It's always dependent on the person though my #1 would be KYost and they have their critics. Can see why some people wouldn't like the Hollywood action blockbuster style mixed with dark edgyness they bought to the table but I really enjoyed it all even character deaths. Extremists,blood and torture porn galore. Their run was never boring at least.
