I don't think it's so much that and more the fact that most Wolverine fans, particularly after the movies, are casual X-men fans, while the fans of every other character (except maybe Magneto) are die-hard ones.

I thought Fantomelle from the Wolverines series was a much more interesting character.

There isn't "Too many" there's just the amount that there is.

The general visceral appeal of him just reaches more people that... some of the other x-people. He's the aspirational cowboy archetype and a few other things.

But yes... there was a time in which wolverine transcended the X-men and thenn there's things like "Wolverine and the X-men".

I notice there's a backlash against his appeal here that isn't in other places.

Example:
A. Alex Ross doesn't' like Wolverine because his popularity (along with a few others) kinda drug us into the 90's era "EXTREME!" books.
B. Person on the boards "Seem to think" if not for Wolverine *shakes fist* "Storm/Cyclops/Iceman/My favorite would have that popularity!!!"

"B" is... a stretch, while A. Might be a thing if you lived through that era.

He's not even French, though - he fakes the accent because he thinks it makes him sound cooler. Spurrier's take on him in X-Force is really the only time I've actually liked him since he joined up with the X-Men around Dark Reign.

For me, Hope's existence was one of the factors that delayed Jean's resurrection but she was well used during her spotlight in pre-AvX era.

FantomeX had some good stories but most of his appearances after Remender were bullocks.

I'm not sure, but it was certainly the angle they implicitly leaned on. "Red Hair, Could Be Jean" and "Plucky Youth for Cable" are basically her only identifiable traits. And with Jean back she has no reason to be around, which is why she began fading out as early as the O5 stuff. (Also, Jean on her most boring day still has waayyyyy more going for her) Even then they had to prod the books to still remember she existed. She's a somewhat more promoted Joseph now AFAIC.
