    And this isn't the case?
They could have an entire issue where Emma is slowly devoured by cannibals and every thought bubble is just her screaming in silent agony, and I would still put the run miles above Austen.

Damian Wayne is not the comparison to make. It is Talia that was the love interest that Morrison also killed on the last issue of his Batman run. DC brught her back after being character assasinated by Morrison. But the character will never be same, it is over her viability as love interest
While Jean got out better than Talia, she got a lot of negatives against her too.

    Definately it wasn't Quesada idea

It is always surprising how many threads are dedicated to the same discussion about Morrison's run. Sadly it is always about the worst parts.
and even after years of so many discussions it always goes nowhere, only character bashing.

I'm glad Jean is finally back and hope that the X-men move from Morrison's run finally

It was Quesada that kept her dead. That's the issue you keep missing. Nothing any writer ever writes is set in stone. Quesada could have had her come back literally as soon as Morrison left. He didn't.

They won't. No one ever will. Sorry, it's the truth.

There are too many unresolved issues from that run, and this is no answer that will please even HALF of the fans.

    Balenciaga Austen.

That still doesn't free Morrison of guilt. We wouldn't be having this coversation if Morrison didn't pitched his story. he pulled the trigger, no one asked him to do it

The two most integral X-runs up to now are Claremont and Morrison. There have been good or great runs in the intervening years, but those have been the essentials. That's why they're still talked about and debated above all.

As for pleasing or not pleasing fans, if you please everyone you're doing something wrong anyway.

We wouldn't be having this conversation if Quesada had just brought her back, like Morrison intended with the Phoenix egg in Here Comes Tomorrow. Quesada declined.

Writers kill for shock value all the time. That's their job. Editorial cleans up the mess afterwards. That's THEIR job. Morrison did his, Quesada didn't.

The only thing anybody remembers about Morrison is his love drama, that's all that it is discussed. Nothing more, it is so overrated.
The only character that actually got significant and lasting development of it was Emma(cool for her fans) but still nothing close to Claremont's legacy.

and even the franchice had to move from Claremont, they eventually have to move from Morrison.

Hardest of hard disagrees. Every writer changes things. Morrison's lasted because of the quality of what he changed. And because he wrote the best Scott ever, the best Jean ever, the best Charles ever, the best Hank ever, and the fourth best Emma.

There's no way to do that, short of retconning everything away. Even then you're not going to please even the majority of fans.

I disagree on Scott and on jean.

I think it have more to do with polemic than anything else. Morrison run is like when Crash and Green Book won the oscar.

Morrison's run was the most additive run in a long time. I can't think of any major additions between the end of his run and the start of Hickman's. Morrison brought new things to the table. Sublime, Cassandra Nova / Mummudrai, the World, Weapon Plus, Fantomex, iconic secondary mutations, the Cuckoos, new characters that actually stuck like Quentin Quire.

That's literally not true. Maybe that's all you focus on because of some obsession with the idea that Jean and Scott are the greatest love story of all time or whatever, but no.
