The fact that mutants need to be trained to manage their gifts by a specialized institute sounds more like behavioral therapy for autistic kids. I'm sure that's going to be an allegory one day.
I think if the story ever presents it as a non government controlled treatment that people could willfully go to, and that was THE ONLY WAY that it was used, there would be no problem.

But it’s not written in the story like that because I guess in story, someone out there with an anti mutant agenda would find a way to weaponize it.

Does that mean no good therapies can exist in real life without it being weaponized? I don’t know the answer to that but the comics say no it’s not possible (since every time it’s brought up, someone tries to weaponize) so I just go with it *shrug* .

I guess what I’m saying is I don’t need the parallels to be exact for me to still appreciate what they are trying to say. Once we acknowledge that the people in 616 act in ways that differ sometimes from our world, it’s an easier pill to swallow. As long as there is enough consistency elsewhere.

It's simple, make the mutant cure not completely useful, with terrible side effects our that it outright doesn't work on powerful mutants, and as a parallel make permanent MGH and call it the human cure

It's simple. Make the mutant cure both vaping and going vegan simultaneously. It would be interesting to see how much of the mutant population goes for it.

The only thing that’ll come out of a cure storyline is marvel cleaning house than ignoring said story/cure ever happened.

    - morrison era isn't the outstanding and greatest modern x-men book everyone makes it out to be, he just came up with his own plot lines instead of regurgitating classic claremont
storylines and actually took in consideration what readers hated from the 90's and started with a blank slate

    - jean and logan shouldn't even be considered a love triangle or whatever. jean kissed logan because she was in an emotional vulnerable state and was tired of her husband cheating and
she was just too nice to tell logan she cares deeply for him but she doesn't actually love him romantically. and logan is a bit of slut and gets around

    - of all the male characters in the x-men, logan really shouldn't be the one who's slept with practically every female character in the marvel universe when he's got the sex appeal of a
balding, beer belly having high school gym teacher and the charm of a hermit who hadn't had any contact with civilisation in over 20 years.

    - the lone ranger archetype writers insist on logan is pretty ridiculous considering he's got like 7 biological children, practically adopts every spunky teenage girl he encounters and is
friends with like every a and b lister hero

    - i don't like the storm goddess storyline, she's a mutant. I love how people look at her as a godess and how she's powerful enough to be considered one but she's a mutant and taking
that away is such a boring retcon trope in comics

    - kitty hasn't had any concrete character development since excalibur. she's the same self righteous and judgemental character she was in the 80's but at least back then she had the
excuse of being 13. and kitty gets away with is because she's the character men had a crush on growing up and girls idolised because she was the relatable character. kinda like the
    peter parker of the x-men

    - emma frost is actually a great x-men and is one of the best teacher the school ever had. she had a real redemption and character growth and i'm tired of people refusing to see it
because they refuse to let go of their madonna and whore complex with emma

    - colossus, beast and nightcrawler hadn't had any real use or development in years and just take the page space that other characters are more deserving of but get stuck in limbo

    - kelly thompson isn't that great of a writer and she can only write a specific type of female characters and i'm tired of it

@frostedemma I'd go further and say Austen > Morrison, Jean should still be dead, Logan's best when outside of main line stories and shouldn't be shipped with major characters at all, writers are afraid to make Storm fun, Kitty should still be in a space bullet, Colossus should've never come back to life, Beast should still be an Avenger and Kelly Thompson is an outright bad writer who has ruined not only Rogue but Gwenpool too. Rosenberg is also a bad writer.

i wouldn't go as far as to say austen > morrison because austen managed to cook up some truly godawful storyline and his pace was too slow for a main flagship title. writers are afraid to make storm fun because they think in modern comics fun = dopey and quirky personality. Colossus takes the spot that frenzy or warpath should have. jean deserved to have a storyline that separated her from the phoenix but she shouldn't be team leader two seconds after coming back to life. and her current established personality doesn't match the one of a field leader, she should teach at the school and be a headmaster since really she's the one who has the temperament and the credentials. Beast disagrees with everything the x-men does he really should be an avenger or work for shield or something. Rosenberg is an awful writer. he gets too ambitious with his plots, over complicates them which creates so many plot holes and when asked about said plotholes and if their part of a bigger plan he just replies with "who knows wink wink". and no amount of witty one liners can make up for that. kelly thompson is also currently ruining kate bishop and all the character growth fraction and gillen. instead of given time to grow as a writer she's given a bunch of female character solos and team books to appease male editors guilt that they don't hire female writers instead of you know, give major character solo books and team books to various competent female writers

I think the Mutants = persecuted minority angle should be balanced with mutants who are privileged over humans because of their mutation, and use their mutation to gain wealth and fame and power, and by humans who want to become mutants themselves (like the U Men of Sublime)

The mutant persecution metaphor for real life oppression was written better (not to say it didn't have its issues) when two jewish guys who grew up poor in brooklyn in the 1920's were writing the x-men than it has been written for the last almost decade.

nothing of interest has been done with the hellfire club in decades.
But yes, or also X-Statix, mutant celebrities.

Mutant criminals using their powers in casinos or with stocks and bonds to get wealthy. Would a mutant be allowed in the Olympics or the World Cup if he or she gets an unfair advantage?
What if there are pregnancy tests that also tell you if your kid will be a mutant? Is it ok to abort them? Would the Church of Humanity have Abort your mutant kid campaigns? Would supervillians try to get their hands on the genetic material?

There is a lot of science fiction stuff you can do with the idea of mutants and the xgene beyond minority persecution stories.
