So it sounds like they slapped the name on some story and they are really hoping for 3 movies on this franchise?

Pretty much. Also you gotta ask has anyone actually ever asked for a Tetris movie? I mean out of all the classic video game franchises out there Tetris is the one they think will work as a film, yet alone a trilogy? I cant help but wonder what the big wigs at Hollywood are smoking? XD

    Trilogy?

A proper Tetris franchise should have a tetralogy.

Tetris is one of my all-time favorite video games, especially the original Game Boy version, so in that respect I'm interested in seeing what they do.

I'm just afraid it will never live up to the amazing film I have in my head after listening to this.

I don't like to approach it from a "who asked for this" standpoint, because that suggests that the only reason some things should exist is fan demand. That is dangerous thinking. It doesn't give much leeway for creative types to create something that surprises people.

    But still . . . Tetris?

Anything they create will just add all sorts of unnecessary story on top of what is essentially one of the amazingly simple concepts in video game history.

LOL, you know a Hungry Hungry Hippos horror film might work as an entertaining B-movie ala the first Sharknado. XD

But yes, sadly Hollywood is willing to make a film out of just about anything these days.
