Default Who inspires more fear batman or the joker

Two ordinary persons ordinary as in not having any superpower who have become symbols of fear that all villains and heroes get a bad vibe when going against them. the joker is regarded as pretty much uncontrollable and all Dc villains tend to avoid him and Batman is feared not only by criminals but by those persons nearest to him. my question is who inspires more fear the joker or batman?

Yes he does kill and has haunted batman but when batman snapped in the hush story arc and was finally ready to kill him he had him running in fear from him.

The Joker, theres a story where one of the Flash villains (Pied Piper I think) says that to scare each other the DC villains tell Joker stories

For a good example see Batman RIP, that moment when the Joker meets the Black Glove and breaks a guys neck you can see they are all terrified of him

yes in the underworld unleashed storyline the trickster does say that and in the batman rip storyline he does have them shaking in their boots but in the same story he acknowledged that he has gone literally crazy trying to beat batman and once you go against the batman he just creates such situations where you are trapped inside your own head due to him manipulating your psychology. Even superman acknowledges his ability to manipulate any situation as one of his most scary traits.in the Superman batman public enemies story arc. he also emotionally raped Jezebel when he stole the only relic of her childhood memories. she can't believe he knows so much about her. that is another factor which makes him so dangerous as he is a master exploiter who knows almost all facts about his enemies and how to use the knowledge against them.

It may depend more on if you're naughty or if you're nice?

lol who can say batman is "nice"? he has a pretty much a sick mind as the spectre and the spawn and pretty much everyone who has been inside his mind has attested.. when darkseïds minions tried to clone him he let them have the totality of his life experience and they literally clawed out their eyes due to the unbearable psychic pain. when you can make people go mad just by making them experience your memories and the corresponding emotions you can say you are not a nice man even if you follow moral code.

The Joker hands down IMO. Joker has no allegiances or clear mission. He does what ever he wants, whenever he wants. You could make an argument that Batman is mentally ill or suffering from PTSD from his canon appearances but nothing he has ever done compares to the Joker.

Criminals are afraid of The Batman, but everybody is afraid of The Joker (except Harley on good days).

well you are correct in that the joker is batshit crazy and he has committed some heinous deeds but does that make him more fearsome than batman? the scarecrow admits that he fears only the batman when even the black lanterns can't elicit any emotional response from him. he was even able to scare a werewolf back to his human form and he was chosen as a representative of his sector for induction into the sinestro corps not the joker and besides this there have been many instances when someone has appeared as batman and pretty much scared the opposition into submission thus taking advantage of the fearsome reputation he has. even parallax acknowledges him as a disciple.

I'd say the Joker is scarier by far because he's so unpredictable.

Batman? He doesn't scare the innocent (or at least he doesn't when he's being correctly written).
And if you're a villain you have this certainty that Batman shall hunt you down, beat you up, perhaps severely, and hand you over to the cops.

Joker? It doesn't matter if you're a hero, a villain, an innocent bystander, or the most loyal goon the Joker has ever had. At any point he can just randomly turn on you and start torturing to death because he thinks it's funny.

when you put it like that it becomes hard to argue against. so the joker wins hands down due to the fact that he's crazy and got a sadistic sense of humor. the batman is scary but deep down every time a opponent faces him he is not worried about what happens if I lose whereas the same thing cannot be said in case of joker. heck the joker would kill you if you spoil his punchline as readily as he would for spoiling his plan so it is kinda strange that he got so many sane henchmen to work with him . guess greed triumphs fear as well.
