So you think Child Pornography is acceptable? Really?

Yeah, I already know it's a scene in the book and that the editors approved it, I was obviously looking for your personal opinion of it.

It's only pornography if King intended people to be aroused by it.

Whether or not King intended arousal, if he described it in detail it can be classified as pornography. Just because arousal isn't intended by the author doesn't mean that there aren't individuals out there who will be aroused by it. That said... it's more about simbobs response than about the book itself.

People get aroused by many things that aren't inherently sexual or pornographic. That doesn't make those things sexual or pornographic. Per definition, a pornographic classification requires a level of intent present.

Stephen King likely meant for the scene to be disturbing. Seems like he succeeded.

I love Pennywise's look, though I assume he will have to appear less menacing in some shots. No way in hell would Georgie approach this thing in a storm drain.

I'm a little bummed about the time period change, but not outraged. I'm also interested in seeing what forms IT will take. We know some won't make it in, but others will be invented. Hope to see some cool surprises.

Well, not until we live in a world hundreds of years in the future where everything is basically like the cantina's in Star Wars.

I dunno, can you honestly say if you were a kid you'd actually go near this thing even?

Does it read like porn? I only ever read a tiny bit of the book at a friends place, and that wasn't it.

My personal opinion is that I could care less that it's a thing the book does.

Y'know though, when you really look at them the two are really about the same level of creepy, it's only that the make up is better on the new Pennywise. I'm sure if someone edited the original Pennywise to have the same they'd be pretty much the same. Well, not really, but y'know what I mean.

I was concerned too, but having thought about it, the 50s setting isn't absolutely critical. The book goes into exhaustive detail about life in the 50s because King obviously has a large nostalgia for his childhood.

But I can see the 80s working. The 50s setting was only critical for Mike Hanlon's race making him an outcast, but Derry is explicitly presented as an anomaly of violence and hate brewing inside what appears to be an all american small town. It could still work.

And I'm curious about what kind of monsters they come up with too. We won't be getting the classic monsters like the Mummy, the Wolfman or Dracula, but these are kids that would have grown up watching John Carpenter and Wes Craven type horror movies. So I'd expect a lot more creative and grotesque type creatures for Pennywise to appear as.
    Life is but a dream

Oh god yes on that, it's insane. I mean first off, I'm gonna kill you for this fatboy, Why? He literally did nothing, you were the one doing something, he was just sitting there.

And then gutting, and cutting and wanting to kill them, I mean what the hell is wrong with the bullies in that town??? I mean c'mon.
