I still strongly believe that Marvel knows exactly what they're doing. They know that their treatment of the X-men and the perception that they're being marginalized is having an impact. It's exactly the impact they're looking for in the sense that it gets the attention of fans. It gets people talking. It gets people emotional. That's a key goal for any business that involves multiple forms of media. Getting peoples' attention isn't the same as getting their money. At the end of the day, profits are the main goal. However, getting peoples' attention is the precursor to getting that money. In some ways, it's the most valuable commodity because without it, getting publicity and sales is next to impossible. It's pretty brilliant in the grand scheme of things. Playing into the perceptions that there's an agenda against the X-men keeps people emotional and invested. If handled correctly, that will pay big dividends down the line. We, as fans, might not see it. But we, the fans, have only ourselves to blame because this tactics works.
