Default Brooklynites Aren't Thrilled With Incoming Captain America Statue

The Marvel hero is too commercial a property, many neighborhood residents maintain, and doesn't belong in the open space.

I'll gladly let them put it in my yard. Hope they stick it somewhere nice and visible and let it meld into the cityscape.

Was not surprised at all though to hear new York's extreme left wingers getting their knickers in a twist over a patriotic symbol being erected in their neighborhood.

Bring the statue to Bedford Stuyvesant and let it stay. Also create a Isaiah Bradley statue. Let them be side by side.

It's temporary, so what's the problem?

Even then, the fact that it's not actually selling anything but instead merely acknowledging the impact of a cultural icon, makes this whole complaint even sillier.

I mean how do you jump from this statue to opening a McDonald's or Walmart?

F Brooklyn if they don't want it. We'll take it in the Bronx.

I'm surprised, honestly, to see it turn into a "Too commercial!!!" thing. I mean, sure he's a Marvel property, and I get that, but he's a cultural icon. It would be like erecting a statue of Superman or Wonder Woman. You take it for the meaning behind it, what the character stands for and the impact that character has had to society in its history, not the company selling the product.

I wish they'd used the original Simon/Kirby design instead of this one. Beyond that, I don't see a problem.

So it's an opposite effect of Philly and the "Rocky" Stature

How many of these people are even actually from Brooklyn, and how many are from Brooklyn by way of "Bed Bath and Beyond"?

Ten bucks says everyone that has a problem with this wears a lot of flannel and has ironic facial hair. Shut up, hipsters and quit your bitching.

This isn't a left/right thing (I'm a straight up socialist and I want a Cap statue here in DC). This....is hipsters. More than 30 people like Cap, so they're going to whine about him.

    Damn hipsters.
