    Default Z Nation

So, Z Nation aired last night. I was able to catch the pilot and it was actually pretty decent. I wouldn't call it anywhere near the level of TWD, but there have been worse things on television and it's actually fairly enjoyable. Not very scary but there are some decent twists and turns here and there. It'll be interesting to see where this goes and based on the relatively solid pilot, I'll stick around for at least 3 more episodes though.

And they actually call them zombies! Hurrah!

I agree that it wasn't a bad start. About the level of a cheap B-movie. I think it's going to be an uphill battle for this show, because they are playing INTO the campy side of zombie fiction, while the other show on TV is playing away from it. It certainly ins't going to be a show that people who are fans of the Walking Dead but not necessarily zombies in general are going to watch. Calling them zombies, referencing bite marks, actually using the term zombie apocalypse. All nice little nods at the zombie fans, but again, not things that really endear the show to people who are only fans of the Walking Dead.

    Default Z Nation

Tonight's episode was OK but it ripped of a few things from other zombie stories as if to say this is how it could be done and be done better by us at Asylum.

The scene at the cannibal hooker camp was clever and much needed nod to the survivalist aspect of apocalyptic fiction - in that there will be pockets of humanity and there would be commerce and some pockets are bad and some are good. The cannibal aspect in this episode is seen in almost all apocalypse settings but in Z Nation they seemed shocked and it is logical for them to be so shocked because if you kill a human the virus infects the meat at the instance of death even if the brain is killed - so no one has done it in this fictional universe as a survival strategy. So the cannibals keep the humans alive. Keeping humans alive and slicing off body parts is not original. Nor was the scene were the Z Nation version of Rick from The Walking Dead snaps his finger and a sniper kills a cannibal. That is right out of the Walking Dead comic book.

Still, it was an entertaining episode. The hour went fast watching it.

As a marketing - viewer interaction gimmick I like that they have a map that traces their journey with fake tweets by Citizen Z.

Not a bad episode. I like that they still encounter humans along with zombies all the time. Honestly, I can't nitpick it too much because it does not take itself too seriously. I do hope they step up the seriousness (as in more drama and less jokes) but I am loving "Doc" the old stoner dude a lot and Murphy is fun to watch with whatever is going on with him.

"Full Metal Zombie" was decent. Romero and Night of the Living Dead are confirmed to exist in the Z Nation universe. It's great to see Bill Moseley show up as General McCandles. The DJ Qualls scenes were kind of funny as were the scenes with Doc stuck in the ventilation shaft.

Yeah I'm glad he survived, excellent fake out.

Z Nation has actually addressed two things TWD has not: the highway faux-zombie ambush, and rationing out toilet paper when it's time to take a dump.

There are many levels of Zombie appreciation - what the WD has not done well is show the world from a Survivalist perspective.

I suspect toilet paper will be like gold in any post apocalyptic scenario. Just bought myself a 48 double roll pack so I'm set!

I kinda like this more then WD...The "parody" element might be why. I can personally do with out some of the Heavy Drama that Walking Dead has in abundance.

I think there's room for TWD and Z-Nation. I enjoyed Full Metal Zombie the most of the few episodes so far. Murphy 'mutating' in future episodes is going to get grizzly. They need to go full Toxic Avenger on that! I think the dafter the better with this new show. Amish zombies? Ok, but lets have some celebrity zombies!
    We're all the Doom Patrol!!!
Opinions come in all shapes and sizes.
But they're still just opinions yo

"Home Sweet Zombie" The zombies running into the electric fence scene was kind of funny as was the drill bit breaking off in dude's skull. Murphy starting to look part zombie. Since it's Syfy I assumed the tornado would have more zombies flying around in it.

The WD at this point does fake drama - the example is Andrea in a locked room with a stabbed professor - what's his name. She actually stopped trying to free herself and monologues. Horrible.
