It's a fallacy that the DCEU phase 1 is really a phase 1. Batman and Superman are the two most popular and well-established superheroes in history. A movie with them fighting should be on par with one of the bigger MCU movies. Maybe not to the tune of $1.4 bil, but at least to the tune of $1 bil, like Iron Man 3 and Cap 3.

No, most of the box office has come from opening weekend. People going to see it then doesn't mean people are enjoying it. It's not an outspoken minority that dislikes it. If you liked it, great, but the general consensus is mixed.

Yet again, box office doesn't mean people enjoyed it, especially not when most of the box office came from opening weekends. Ratings on aggregate sites may not equal the majority, but they're the best gauge you can get for audience approval.

But the movie is scoring well among audiences on aggregate sites.

If the tone and characterizations met certain people's expectations with the same "problems" from the DCEU films, I believe many people's views of the films would be different. Now I'm not expecting you or others to agree, only to suggest why the movies can be successful despite critical opinion at the moment.

No, they aren't. As GDC3 says, with which I fully agree, ratings on RT or IMDB don't represent the majority — not when there are millions who watch (and enjoy) these films while only a fraction actually go online to rate them.

Yup for eg. Assuming a $10 average ticket price that means 89m people saw BvS. Idmb only 375k have voted...

Superman is not a popular hero. Iconic, yes but not popular. If we're talking about sales expectations of iconic characters, does it mean that we should expect $1b from a Mickey Mouse movie?

Do people usually purchase tickets without watching the movie?

i think superman is plenty popular. he is beloved by the general public and if we're talking about comics sales, he has a top 10 comic book last i checked.

I would disagree regarding that. Supe's popularity is still above average, but it's not like it was decades ago.

Not really. It's at 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, and will probably end up in the 62-65% range. That's not terrible, but it's not good. For reference, X-Men: The Last Stand has a 62%. Same idea on IMDb, where it has a 6.9, and The Last Stand has a 6.8.
