Thumbs up Well, I Hate To Be Negative, BUT...

It'd been a while since there was much I cared about. It just became "news" about movies and tv shows I wasn't watching, but the revamp really kicked it up a notch.

I go to comic sites for news on comics. Previews, Reviews, Interviews. Not every and any snippet you can glean from the production of a movie that's 16 months away from release. Sadly, that's most "comic" sites now.
Everything that can be said probably has been said about the new CBR launch page. I didn't read all 31 pages of the thread, but I kinda got the gist of the general dislike, so 'nuff said.

What I can't get into are All. The. Lists. Do I really care about "15 Times Superman Gave Batman A Kryptonian Wedgie" or "10 Times The Hulk Pants Ripped And We Found Out How Incredible He Really Isn't?" No. I really do not. I care more about features, interviews, news articles, reviews and comic book history pieces than crap about Superheroes Who Got Lucky With A Supervillain.

I've worked in journalism and I've been a blogger, so I know views and clicks are what makes the world go round and enables daddy to buy baby some new shoes, but too much of CBR's content has turned into so much clickbait and that truly disappoints me. Nothing ever stays the same and CBR is still alive and kicking where others have disappeared like a fart in the wind. First law of nature is self-preservation, but there should be a happy balance to be struck between quality and commerce.

It would be interesting to see figures - but I would be surprised if the site isn't getting fewer clicks than it used to. It's certainly getting fewer from me.

If you believe Valnet Inc's site, they've close to doubled traffic

Back in May 2016, they claim 27 million page views and 50% mobile.

They currently claim 51 million page views and 65% mobile
    http://www.valnetinc.com/comicbookresources

Although website traffic estimators place the views under 8 million. Though even these can't be fully trusted as they are just estimates.

This graph shows both cbr.com domain and comicbookresources.com domain (which is basically the forums) for the past 6 months.

The main page's Alexa ranking has dipped a tiny bit.
    Currently 5,323

Back in April 2016 it was 3,960.
    https://web.archive.org/web/20160403...kresources.com

Although it is a little harder to compare the two now since the main site and the forums are on two different domains as compared to both being under one back in 2016.

    Edit:
Here is an article comparing the major comic news sites traffic.

I've been going to this site less but it's not because of the front page.

Thanks for the links. So it looks like they have dropped a bit - despite what they claim. Of course I suspect they've also reduced some of their overheads so it might still be more profitable.

Actually they seemed to have increased traffic if you trust some traffic analysis sites. The article in the last link is from late last year which was a little after the switch over to the CBR.com domain.

This is CBR.com's semrush organic research which currently places traffic at 824K with a traffic cost of $631K.
    https://www.semrush.com/info/cbr.com+(by+organic)

While the old CBR before the sale peaked with a traffic of 442K.
    https://www.semrush.com/info/comicbo...m+(by+organic)

Since around early this year, they've seem to have tripled traffic. My main guess is they've lost some more "hardcore" fans in exchange for a wider more general audience.

Arse. Well there goes any hope the good old days coming back (not that there ever really was any hope).
