Default Disney's making a live action version of The Lion King

Because Disney continues to feel the need to make live action bastardizations of their animated classics they have set their sights on Lion King as a future remake.

Personally i'll stick with the origional movie and the Lion Guard TV series.

Honestly as a huge fan of the origional I find this news rather disheartning. Why not just do another anomated movie or a movie for Lion Guard, heck i'd settle for a prequel about Scar & Mufasa as kids. Personally I blame everyone who helped make the live action Jungle Book a success. Shame on you!

Lion King's been live action for years, on Broadway.

Are you surprised? They already did Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and have Beauty and the Beast coming up. I have no doubt they wanted to do a live action Little Mermaid, but another studio is already doing that by adapting the original story (and boy do I predict that there will be hundreds of pissed off parents writing angry letters after they take their kids to see that. That original story was DARK).

The success of The Jungle Book shows that there is a market for this kind of remake. I honestly expect them to work their way through the catalog of animated classics and remake each of them.

A broadway musical is a much different beast then a overbloated live action CGfest.

Now Now, lets not forget the various live action failures Disney has had.... heck there have been 3 just this year.

Alice Through The Looking Glass $299,249,505
    The BFG $174,227,472
    Pete's Dragon $122,427,044

    And of course...
    John Carter $284,139,100
    The Lone Ranger $260,502,115
Prince of Persia Sands of Time. $336,365,67

Disney is pretty hit and miss in terms of success with live action films. And arguably very miss with quality. I get the urge to use a well known I.P to make a quick buck, but the last thing we need is some souless live action reimagining of the Lion King.

We are talking about live action adaptation of PROVEN DISNEY CLASSICS. Through the Looking Glass doesn't count... but...

    Alice in Wonderland: 1.025 BILLION

    that does count.

Pete's Dragon had a budget of 65 million man....

None of those 6 movies are live action remakes of old Disney animated movies, Disney's had success every time they've done that more or less, and a Lion King remake would be most like the Jungle Book which nearly broke a billion.

Just think about what a live action version of Frozen could rake in. And I'd be surprised if Disney isn't considering that.

Well that figures. Best thing Disney has going for them are their MCU movies, Star Wars properties and live action remakes of their animated films.

    Alice in Wonderland

    Maleficent

    The Jungle Book

    Cinderella

Beauty and the Beast *coming soon*

Mulan and The Little Mermaid were said to be in pre-production last year.

Emma Stone was tapped to play Cruella DeVill for another 101 Dalmatians remake.

And Pixar, I mean they own the top 4 grossing movies of the year thus far with a Star Wars and MCU movie still to come
