He apparently does need it, why else would he possess Michael Pointer, and try to possess Magneto (that is him in the picture)? Also pay attention to what he says : "Feel it inside. Connection." This supports my theory (based on BMB's own work) that they ALREADY fused before (see Planet X), what other "connection" could there possibly be?

my point being that he was still "alive" without a form. him, ultimately, needing to find a place to reside is besides the point.
Pointer seemed to have the capacity to contain a lot of power
you should be asking why he committed a bunch of destruction in Magneto's name. maybe he's just a fan.
that's only part of what he said; as I pointed out. we simply don't know enough about Xorn to come to a solid conclusion. Xorn might just be a psycho. Joker felt a "connection" with Batman, afterall.
I'm unaware of your theory. but you're forgetting about the decapitation. if Xorn fused with someone, it wasn't the Magneto that he's fusing with in that picture. the former was missing his head.
Xorneto (Xorn + Magneto fusion + Sublime too i.e. Kick) was decapitated by Wolverine.
Xorn, free of Magneto's beheaded body, continued to survive in his energy form and became a free spirit, a mutant ghost, who was later absorbed into the giant ball of mutant energy created by the Decimation (it was composed of all of the depowered mutants powers - I know it doesn't make any sense at all as per the rules of physics, but you know, comics!) which he took over and became crazy and became the Collective (which is why he is claiming to have killed all the people in Planet X, because he was already confused, he is Xorn and it was also "Xorneto" who was in Planet X, in other words, he is only speaking symbolically). THIS WAS JOE QUESADA'S OWN PERSONAL AND OFFICIAL EXPLANATION, WHICH WAS REFLECTED IN THE 2004 XMEN HANDBOOK.
Avengers-Disassembled-Era Wanda secretly resurrected Magneto and fixed his beheaded body*, as confirmed by Dr. Strange in the House of M mini-series by BMB, which is why he was instinctively drawn to rescue her, SUDDENLY WEARING THE SAME EXACT COSTUME XORNETO WORE IN PLANET X** and suddenly creating THE SAME EXACT SPACE-TIME WORMHOLE*** XORNETO MADE IN THE NEW XMEN STORY WITH THE SHIAR AND CASSANDRA NOVA, as shown in Excalibur: Genosha by CC.
*The Collective story from where that picture is taken takes place AFTER the House of M, and Magneto was shown as being resurrected in Excalibur: Genosha which takes place BEFORE the House of M.
** Xorn has NOTHING in his powerset ("star for a brain") that would allow him to physically impersonate Magneto, and there is NO REASON why Magneto would suddenly wear the same exact costume as Xorneto wore in Planet X (it only appeared there) unless he was the Xorneto himself.
*** NO OTHER character was ever shown as being able to create space-time wormholes except XORNETO in New Xmen and the only way that Magneto could create one if he was the Xorneto himself.
Beast confirmed to Dark Beast that it was MAGNETO who killed Jean, in a flashback explanation in Mike Carey's Endangered Species.
Deadpool (who canonically has meta-omniscience like Gwenpool) confirmed to Loa that it was MAGNETO who killed Jean, in Necrosha.
Cyclops confirmed to Matthew Malloy that it was MAGNETO who most recently crippled Xavier, in BMB's All-New All-Different Xmen, and MAGNETO confirmed to Matthew Malloy that Cyclops was telling the truth.
When asked when this happened, BMB posted on his Tumblr that infamous last-page full-page from New XMen 146 when Xorneto unmasked himself as MAGNETO and disabled the metallic nano-sentinels holding up Xavier (which was the explanation for ALL of Xorn's so-called "healing", which is why he didn't do anything to really heal anyone else aside from Xavier.)

X-writers managed to emancipate him from the mustache-twirling category after years of efforts, but Magneto has always been a villain.
That global attack firmly entrenched him in that category years before that Xorn affair, especially when knowing he wasn't possessed by anyone or anything at the time.
