The hero isn't really expected to win his first encounter with the villain, at least that is what you expect in a narrative. He will lose the battle but it's part of the process that leads him to winning the war. In this movie, it was the island. I see nothing wrong with this. Is it an exaggeration, perhaps but it still makes sense to me considering it IS Superman. I don't consider it a plot hole, it's more a deux ex machina moment than anything else.

Because he went below the landmass and lifted up the part of the earth while the K crystals were still growing so giving enough time to send to the sun

And if that landmass was made of lead (which in that particular superman universe is the only thing known to block K radiation), that would somewhat work as an explanation.

Fanwank is that his vulnerability to kryptonite is psychological, and not physical.

Reality is that it's supposed to be one of those situations where he pushes himself beyond his physical limits to do the impossible because the imminent danger would bring about catastrophic results if he can't manage to do it.

    EDIT: Plus what DeadXman said.

I agree, that and the airplane at the stadium. The movie did have its moments in the midst of plenty bad moments.

To answer your question, no, it is not the very definition of a plot hole.

They showed him soaking up the sunlight right before that. Not sure why 'Superman gets strength from the sun,' has continued to baffle so many comic fans since this movie came out.

That's not how it works. Soaking up solar energy doesn't make him immune to Kryptonite.

Yes, but the implication is that he strengthened himself enough to give it one big go before it started gradually affecting him again.

He fainted and fell so hard after accomplishing that fantastic unbelievable feat of strength and willpower.

There is an expression to describe this scene: Plot Armor
    TRUTH, JUSTICE, HOPE
That is, the heritage of the Kryptonian Warrior: Kal-El, son of Jor-El

I can accept this because the way Kryptonite effects him differs between writers and mediums. So who cares, there was stuff in that movie that was 10x worse.

Bad writing. It is just that simple.
