Plus Spencer had a bunch of old villains in his Ant-Man as well. Enjoyed both very much. Enjoyed Spider-Man #1 too because of Beetle and Boomerang. Looks like a reunion might be on the horizon. Janis Lincoln the Beetle would be a great antagonist for Peter.

I'd settle for that too with one more character added to make six. Like Lady Stilt-Man. Still want another Ant-Man ongoing. That was just as good with all the characters Spencer put in it. Spencer seems to have a soft spot for all of these old villains. Hope he does something with them again.

Fantastic Four #148 Jul 1974
"War on the Thirty-Sixth Floor!" Guest-starring Thundra.
Returning to the Baxter Building following the revelation that Sue is willingly staying with Namor,
the downtrodden Fantastic Four soon find that they are not alone in the Baxter Building.
Reed is attacked first by the Sandman who is hiding out in Reed's lab.
Freeing the rest of the FF who were trapped in an elevator, they begin searching
out the rest of their headquarters for the other members of the Frightful Four.

The Sandman reunites with the Wizard and Trapster

and they begin their hunt for each of the members of the Fantastic Four. The Trapster finds the Human Torch first

and manages to immobilize him with his super-paste.
The Wizard tracks down both Reed and Medusa and is able to defeat them by placing anti-gravity discs on their backs.
Finally, the Thing is attacked by the Sandman. However he avoids defeat when their fight is interrupted by Thundra,
who has come to make good her previous warning to her former teammates in the Frightful Four about attacking the Fantastic Four ever again.

Meanwhile, Johnny manages to break free of the Trapster's paste-trap

and easily defeats his old foe. He then finds the Wizard and uses the Trapster's paste gun to immobilize him.
Freeing Reed and Medusa, the FF reunite and contain the villains they have defeated.
When Reed asks Thundra how she knew they were in trouble, the possible answer is interrupted when they all become
aware that Namor has risen sea monsters from the sea and intends to renew his aggressions towards the surface world.

Silver Sable and the Wild Pack #26 Jul 1994
"Blood and Sand!"
The issue starts out the in Symkarian Embassy in New York.
The Wild Pack are going through a very hard workout, and BattleStar and Powell are jawing with each other.
Sandman then breaks up the two and starts to come down on them for not taking this seriously, even though this is a loose workout.
Silver breaks it up, but Sandman leaves in a huff. In a bar, Sandman realizes he did overact but before anything happens,
a couple of the locals start picking on a guy in the bar that turns out to be the Trapster, one of Sandman's old buddies in crime.
Fresh out on parole, and not wanting any trouble, Trapster is about to get roughed up, before Sandman makes the save.
The Trapster talks about trying to get a second chance. Sandman suggests that he try to hook with Silver Sable.
Silver reluctantly agrees to bring Trapster aboard.
He will train with Sandman and Silver will judge if he can cut it when she returns from Symkaria.

The training is going badly. Trapster doesn't have it physically to make it.
Sandman suggests that he use his old Trapster gear, for it might be his only chance.
The next day while Trapster is returning from a store, he's confronted by two hoods trying to collect an old debt. Sandman makes the save.
Trapster doesn't want to press charges, much to the surprise of Sandman, for it would violate his parole.

In a huff, Trapster leaves.
Sandman later goes to Trapster's place to apologize, but he is not there.
However, Sandman does find all the jewels from the heists that have been plaguing the city for some time.
Sandman has a plan to get Trapster back.
The next day in training, Trapster is in his full gear running the course, and Sandman stops him and confronts him.

Trapster however prepared for this and turns on Sandman using a special paste on him, that's hot enough to melt sand.
Trapster runs for it, claiming victory for beating Sandman, but Sandman crashes through the wall much to the surprise of Trapster.
Sandman had to cut off chunks of himself to prevent the paste from spreading.
Sandman beats the daylights out of Trapster but before he delivers the final blow, Silver returns and stops him.
As Trapster is taken away, Sandman worries if he is a hero because he wants to or because he's paid to.

I like the absurdity of it honestly. I get what you're saying and you're right, but It's just One Of Those Things about comics that I gladly accept even though it's ridiculous. I've had my fill of "But what if comics were REALLY REAL LIKE REAL LIFE REAL". It was interesting but I've been over it for a long time now. ...did not expect Paste Pot Pete to lead me here.

I also love how whenever someone got powers in the past they instantly decide they must either stop crime or commit crime. There is no third option. Leth's Hellcat series had a fun character who basically said he wanted crime to play no part in his life, either the stopping of or the committing part, why would he instantly become a hero or villain?

But it makes Trapster a dull one note character.

Its hard to care about a villain who has no back story or characterization beyond ''Bwa, ha, ha! I am super villain and I want to destroy my heroic nemesis because.....Bwa,ha, ha!

That is not a character, heck I think kids cartoons would fun of that type of villain nowadays, kids cartoons would give villains more depth nowadays.


Is Magneto better of as Holocaust survivor or a one-note bad guy? How many great Mr. Freeze stories were there before Heart of Ice?

There are no bad characters, only bad writers, but writers are unwilling to try to do things with these characters, they will always be lame characters. If Trapster is such a one-note bad guy, maybe he should just be comic relief, otherwise maybe develop the character and give him some depth, rather then saying ''comics are silly, so of coarse the villains should be one-note and make no sense.'' Would be the end of the world if they adapted that short story from the 90s where he tried to reform and failed.

Here is the 90s story, would addapting that really harm him or make him better?

I know this is a late reply, but I did see this till now.

I'd argue that Pete is a bored rich guy. does he look like he hasn't eaten in awhile? we've seen him lounging on a cruise ship (it was one of those she-hulks books). generally, he's hanging out at one of the Wizard's palatial villain bases (and we know that Bentley has robot servants). plus he has access to Bagallia and the bar with no name. you think of him as an idiot but don't have half of his access. he's a celebrity; practically above the law. and how many hours does he work a week; would you guess? do you think he gets up at the crack of dawn or has to beg his boss for a raise? he's done the paste marketing before. it was probably boring enough that he returned to crime. going straight wouldn't provide him any cushier of a lifestyle than the one that he's living.

But where is he getting this money from? Is Wizard paying him? Because the Wizard tried to kill him.

And if he just a bored rich guy, is he okay with allies like Shocker and Wizard turning on him? Is he fine with getting exposed to Ghost Rider's penance stare, possibly being in the crosshairs of guys like Punisher or Scourge and heroes like Spidey treating him like a laughing stock? To me, this stuff adds and the bored rich guy does not hold up after he got defeated by the FF's security system, he did have some doubts about his life? At that point, he is either a masochist or a Jacob Wohl like fail son.

You describe a pretty one-dimensional character, would it kill him to get a layer?

Heck does has his parents disowned him? Does he have siblings? Does he have a love interest? Is he straight or is he gay or something else? It doesn't take to develop to make him more developed, just treat him like a human being rather than someone who exists solely to get punched by various superheroes.
