I've always thought Gardner was rock stupid there. He wields the most powerful weapon in the DC universe and could've used it to shoot Batman into orbit around the sun, yet he let his ego get in the way to think he could throw down with Bats, with predictable results. Still, it was funny.

I couldn't find the image I wanted from the first issue of American Flagg; but, here's a damn good one:



The one I wanted was when Flagg takes down Cyril, as the gogng attacks, and after Flagg has bribed him to shoot high. Cyril is shouting "Status quo" at Flagg, who used that line, when responding to Cyril's offer of continuing his previous arrangement with Ranger deputies (they pay him to shoot high, during the Saturday night attacks). Flagg, leaps forward, with riot shield and Buzzknucks (tm) and proceeds to take CCyril down, letting him and everyone else know that the status quo is changing. Chaylkin was so brilliant in that first years and the series was way ahead of its time, yet everyone knew it and still bought it. Now, everyone rips it off. There are other awesome images; but, most are less suitable for mass consumption.

Well, at the time, Guy *was* purposely depicted as an absolute moron, it's true.

That depiction stuck around for years...until the late 1990s, at least.

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) breaks the batarang easily then turns around knocking Batman down with 1 punch. I will likely forever remember that terrific image.
That wasn't fan fiction at all.

Gardner, Kilowog, Stewart, Rayner, and Jordan all these 5 Green Lanterns fighting the Parallax showing off their amazing talents in the same fighting while fighting the embodiment of fear, and the yellow energy.
This was a super bowl of awesomeness if your a Green Lantern fan, dc comics fan, or want to see multiple super heroes get a equal showing at the same time of their talents in 1 fight.

I didn't like it because there's no way Hal is ever going to land a punch on Batman. Not even if Batman had his back to him.
