Default Who was the first Dr. Mid-Night / Dr. Midnight you ever read about?

Title says it all: when you first encountered a DC comic book character named either "Doctor Mid-Nite" or "Doctor Midnight", which one was it?

Dr. Charles McNider - first appeared 1941 / death in 1994

Dr. Beth Chapel - first appeared 1985 / death in 1993

Dr. Pieter Cross - first appeared in 1999

Remember, this poll is who you first read about, not which one you prefer.

Mid-Nite (McNider) was first as I caught the tail end of the Pre-Crisis Era but I read many more issues with Dr Midknight (Chapel) because I was a fan of the younger generation of character legacies.
In the era of the Night Nurse(s) making a comeback via Netflix, Chapel would be a no-brainer functioning in similar capacity.

In my case, it would have been the original Golden Age Dr. Mid-Nite (Charles McNider) in Justice League of America #101 (1972).

The first story I distinctly remember was in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA No. 95 (December '71), which reprinted the origin of the original Dr. Mid-Nite from ALL-AMERICAN COMICS No. 25 (April '41). But by then I think I already knew who Dr. Mid-Nite was.

    To read that reprinted story,

The original, in the JLA/JSA team-ups just prior to the launch of All-Star Squadron.

The preview for the All-Star Squadron was in Justice League of America #193 (August 1981).

The JLA/JSA team-ups prior to that were:

    Justice League of America #183-185

    Justice League of America #171-172

    Justice League of America #159-160

The original, in various JLA/JSA crossovers and reprinted solo stories, in the DC 100-Pg books.

Funny thing about Pieter Anton Cross; I knew about him nearly 10 years before he debuted. In 1991, I attended the Atlanta Fantasy Fair, where I met Matt Wagner and John k Snyder III. They were talking about a Dr Mid-Nite book they had in the works and Snyder showed some artwork. 1991. Wagner also had Batman/Grendel art on display, which looked like it wouldn't happen, due to the Comico bankruptcy. batma/Grendel came out 2 years later, amazingly. Dr Mid-Nite was still in limbo. Never did hear why it took so long for that to finally come out.

Yeah, I believe it was either #159-160 or his appearances in #166 or #183.

I remember buying All-Star Squadron when it launched... and I read the DC Blue Ribbon Digest #3 when I was in junior high a few years later.

And although Beth first appeared at the end of 1985, I never really saw her, except in the Who's Who, because Infinity, Inc. wasn't sold anywhere nearby.

In fact I read the origin of Beth Chapel, with both, Doc 1 and 2 present on the story. Two in one.
