Uh...I'm not sure if it was short or just in a ponytail when she wore that weird costume with the jacket.

Maybe it could be a showcase of her own rookie status. Black Cat has to start somewhere and maybe she has it short due to long length would allow her hair to be grabbed by others (like how 616 Silk got a short hair cut by necessary when Black Cat grabbed her by her long hair). As she gets better and faster by experience she grows it out with confidence she will have the speed and talent to avoid that.
Maybe the makers just want their own design and something separating her. Many in the cast has had different Multiverse designs from various works and Black Cat is no exception. At first it was strange for me to see her have short hair but I don't hate it. It makes her look more in the area of cute in my opinion and younger (which being Peter is High School age to avoid some uneasiness her being around the same age in this case might be for the better if she has romantic displays with Spider-man).

I see what you mean. MJ's hair looks short there too, but it's actually just tucked in behind her jacket. The dialogue actually confirms that Felicia has cut her hair there though. And MJ insults it, lol!

I can't tell if it was Black Cat's bad luck powers that caused him to mess up or his clumsiness that he's demonstrated in the past few episodes .
