So is this gonna be Dick's uncle?

Enjoyed this issue a lot, but am surprised at all the positive response it's getting since the story is once again tying back to the circus. I remember a lot of hate for Higgin's run (which I enjoyed also), because of it being so rooted in the circus backstory.

Raptor is a great new addition to Dick'a mythos so I hope this isn't going to be his last story. Javi Fernandez is doing some great art. Since the first issue he has stepped his game up by leaps, and bounds. Seeley gets Dick Grayson as a character and it's a pleasure to have him writing this title.

I believe the hate for the circus backstory back then stemmed from it's ties to the CoO specifically Haley's part in it and not from the circus origin itself. It also didn't help that DC editorial trashed the Amusement Mile idea that Higgins was building as a vehicle for the redemption of Haley's Circus in the most cliche manner possible later just because.
Supporting LION FORGE COMICS and other independent publishers.

Check out Lion Forge's Catalyst Prime Universe. Its the best damned superhero verse in comics. Diverse characters and interesting stories set in a universe where anyone can be a hero. And company that prides itself on representation both in the comics themselves and in the people behind them.

Oh my goodness gracious! I've been bamboozled!

Okay. Gotcha. I remember enjoying his run but it's been a long time since I've read it.

Tying back to the circus and Dick's families circus backstory is not quite the same as recreating Dick's circus backstory like Higgins was doing.

I was fine with Higgins going hard to Haly's Circus with the Saiko idea, that didn't even irritate me.

It was Snyder trying to turn Dick into another chosen one trope that irked me.

Its wasn't just Saiko though, there was a whole gang of new old best friends and Higgins never was able to make us really care about any of them. Which is another reason Raptor is getting a more positive response.

I always dislike having the villian tied to the hero. But as long as his family is intact raptor could be an uncle or old partner romanticly or otherwise and id be fine

I had to smile when Bruce mentions at the press conference that his son has been calling them "Godzillas" (the quote marks are in the original line). It's a small reminder that Damian is still a kid, and is likely to make pop culture references that Bruce is less likely to recognise, hence the quote marks. I also bet there was an off-panel scene where Damian was griping to Bruce about missing all the cool monsters.

Raptors circus costume has the same motif as the Flying Graysons, so I wonder if he's either a brother or cousin, or if that design is going to be shown to be a broader Circus branding thing and he was just a co-worker in some serious unrequited love for Mary. (That he calls her Mary Lloyd shows he obvious didn't like her being married to John.)

...This is Harry Potter, isn't it? He's going to have gone to circus school with her.

ETA: I do quite like the way all the costume design have elements of all the others in them. Raptor /Dick, Clown Raptor/TFG, Dick/Orca...

I wonder if his costume is Pierrot. So Mary would be Columbine?

ETA ETA: sorry, it's just amusing me that if Mary is Columbine that would position John as Harlequin.

Yeah I get a sinister Snape/Lilly vibe from raptor. He's "watching out" for Dick, in his own way.

Does that make Bruce the Dumbledore?

Yes, but only if we're specifically referring to angry Gambon Dumbledore

Yeah I can't wait to hear his backstory. I'm really loving his whole socialist vigilante thing, so I hope that's not all a sham.
