    Happy Birthday June Brigman!!!

June Brigman got her start working at AC Comics in the early 80’s with a sample story that took three years to see publication.
After a quick stint at DC she moved on to Marvel and created Power Pack with Louise Simonson.
She pencilled the first 17 issues of the title then stayed at Marvel to draw arcs and single issues here and there in New Mutants and Solo Avengers.

Alpha Flight # 50 by June Brigman and Walt Simonson
She returned to DC in 1994 to draw a Supergirl mini-series and then re-teamed with Simonson on Dark Horse’s Star Wars: River of Chaos mini-series.
She shifted her career to comic strips by taking over Brenda Starr in the newspapers until the strip ended in 2011.
She also illustrated the “Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego?” comic for National Geographic and a series of “Choose your Own Adventures” and Young Adult Star Wars novels for Bantam Doubleday.

June is now a teacher of Sequential Art, working at times at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art and the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.

A severely under-rated artist. Many happy returns!

She belonged to a better generation of artists than the present one.

I loved her art in Power Pack. That series was never quite the same after she left, lost a lot of its heart.

Oh happy birthday, June! I appreciate you so much!

First of all, because she's the visual creator of a character who only appears in three X-issues, but who I immediatly loved and I always (unsuccessfully) hoped she became a regular supporting character: Judith Rassendyll.

She was one of those usual CC's self-reliant practical women who acted like persons, not like femme fatales. Her (briefest) semi-crush with Nightcrawler was more something amusing and friendly. But I would have loved to see her again.

In fact, the whole UXM #204 is awesome, just since the first splash page

to the breakup between Kurt and Jimaine, which I think it's one of the sourest, harshest and rawest dialogs ever written by CC; I think Brigman solved it with exemplary sense of arrangement, body language and storytelling:

I understand that maybe superheroes comic-books are not precisely the most suitable gender for Brigman's style, but I truly admire her spontaneity and casualness, her lack of affectation (so common in this bussiness). That's why I think Bob McLeod was probably her perfect inker (Kyle Baker would have been awesome, too), since both of them have got a similar sense of drawing, soft and realistic. Their work together in New Mutants is simply delightful --and a true lesson for many 'Star Artists', BTW... ¬ ¬

I would like to end with a joyful scene from Marvel Swimsuit Special 1991. JUNE ROCKS!

Makes me very grateful for the one-shot this year.
