Default Rebooting Gerard Jones's El Diablo

I'm not much for reboots, but since the DC Universe has been rebooted several times, I see no reason why DC cannot try to give Gerard Jones's El Diablo, about a Mexican American city councilman in Texas, who takes on the role of El Diablo to protect his city. He had a teen age "kid's gang" who helped him out. It lasted only a year and a half. Later they brought him into the JLA, changing him to something more in line with the more familiar El Diablo, but it wasn't the same.

Of course, if they tried to revive him, he couldn't use the name El Diablo, what with that name being associated with the Suicide Squad. Maybe they could use the Whip, another Zorro-like character. (All more recent versions of ths character to be forgotten -- reboot, remember?)

Of course, this is not likely to happen. I understand that. But once in a while, I like to put out ideas I'd like to see happen.

I liked this version. And DC could use another street level hero that has no connection to Batman. Right now there only seems to be Green Arrow.

Your talking about Rafael Sandoval right? I support bringing him back! To my knowledge, unless I'm forgetting someone, he was the first Latino character to lead a comic at DC (possibly even Marvel too). I'd give him a new superhero name since Chato has the El Diablo name on lock thanks to Suicide Squad. DC could use a few more street level heroes!
Done with DC. Can't handle the constant whiplash! Time to go on a hiatus!

That comic was one of my absolute favorites. Personally, I'd be a little nervous about seeing this title return. Jones and Mike Parobeck set an extremely high bar.

That was a pretty solid comic, at least in my memory.

It's a character and situation, at least, that more things could be done with.

Well, Gerard Jones is still alive. Wonder if he'd be up for it.

Mike Parobeck, unfortunately, is no longer with us.

Well, in that Gerard Jones will likely be spending some time in jail on child pornography charges (to which he ultimately pleaded guilty), I think it's highly unlikely we'll see any character closely connect with him. Too bad. The book was excellent.

I also enjoyed that series. Good characterization and it was fun seeing a part of the country that doesn't get a lot of coverage. I could have done without the bolo tie, but he was a good character who would be great to reboot if it weren't for the whole Gerard Jones thing...

They could always reboot the character but give him the Vigilante identity. (It's not like the latest version is likely to be used again.)

Instead of El Diablo how about calling him El Lobo. Sure there's an intergalactic bounty hunter called Lobo but with DC having multiple Flashes, Hawkmen and Manhunters what's wrong with one more character having the same name. Plus the alien is off in the universe and hardly visits Earth and Raphael would have the 'El' to set himself apart from the other one.

I don't think any editor on DC would be wiling to publish anything even remotelly related to Gerard Jones in this moment. Also with the Other diablo around, not a chance to see Rafael around again soon.
