Milo Manara Gives a Spider-Woman Gift to Frank Cho

Manara's argument, whether or not you agree with it (I do), has been that almost no American superheroes are drawn any other way: hardly any of them wear tights that look like an extra layer of fabric.

No, it doesn't look like fabric, but in the older superhero comics most are used to, many of the details you'd see on a nude body, like Spider-Woman's realistically rendered spine, lower back dimples and widely spread ass crack on the Manara usually are missing. Buttcracks are often subdued, nipples are not rendered and the impression of cocks and vulva are right out. The focus is on musculature or void. Manara's image adds an extra level of realism that gives a greater impression of nudity.

Women who wear tights, say for gymnastics or ballet/modern dance, the tights never show what that image shows. The design of the tights is intentionally made thicker in that area and you would never see 'cameltoe', and even if you did, you wouldn't see it from that pose. That image is very unrealistic.

To Hell with censorship. Both Milo Manara and Frank Cho's artistic depictions of women have been impressive.

But the American and Italian comics can't compete with Japanese manga, particularly those works by a manga artist who uses the pseudonym "Distance".

I recommend not Googling this, by the way, unless you want the FBI or whatever organization that investigates child porn in your country knocking on your door.

Well, the gift itself is whatever. Artists draw whatever they want on their own time, power to them. Even if it is odd. And probably the least sexy Spider-woman thing I've seen in a good while.

This however and posting it as such is definitely him trying to piss people off (at which point he'll go on about people's annoyance as if it's censorship). Manara seems to live in his own bubble (plus I don't think too deeply about a guy who made anti Islam sentiments after his Spider-woman cover was critisized) so I don't think as much less of him. He really doesn't get it. Cho however continues to simply be a troll.

But yeah. At the rate he's going I wouldn't be surprised if Cho ends up BEING the reason less "sexy" stuff is allowed because fans get tired of his antics.

But yeah Cho's never fought against censorship or rights of the artists. He's fought for his own ability to do whatever he wants without criticism. If he CARED about creative rights he wouldn't have had issues with Rucka whose creative rights he tried getting around during his Wonder Woman work just to play a victim.

The only "sentiments" I've seen Manara express regarding Islam is this one sentence:

That there are people getting angry for things like that … Unless there is, these days, a hypersensitivity to more or less erotic images, due to this ongoing confrontation that we are supposed to have with Islam. I

Interestingly, it's usually the dudes who are the polar opposite of Cho and Manara (Brian Wood, Devin Faraci, Scott Allie) who turn out to be the real harassers. I'd be more careful around those guys, Cho and Manara have a clean record so far.

Well...to keep things in perspective, Milo is like 70yrs old and Frank is married with to daughters. I hardly think these are two guys who can't control themselves around women.
