I've been hoping we would be getting an update on Bond 25 soon, but this was definitely not the update I was hoping to hear about....I was really looking forward to Boyle directing a Bond film as I felt he could have brought an interesting style to the franchise. I'm curious what "creative differences" lead to him leaving. Unless they have a director ready to go in the next couple of weeks, I'm assuming that this film will not be making its October release date next year.

I suspect that it won't, no It would've been nice, but now I'm thinking, will Daniel Craig get fed up with this crap? He's already reluctant about doing his last film... Although on the plus side, there are some great directors out there.

That was my first thought as well in regards to whether Craig would be willing to stick around now that Boyle is gone. I'm hoping he does as I want to see one more from him before he goes. I think as long as this doesn't get delayed for five years or something like that he will be willing to stick around. Plus the truckload of money I'm sure Sony offered him to come back probably helps with his decision. And I agree that there are some other great directors. I would much prefer they delay the movie until 2020 in order to find a good director rather then rush to meet the 2019 deadline.

Totally. I mean, James Bond is a seriously long-running franchise, there is really no need to rush...

We are getting a bit more information on why Boyle decided to leave. According to the current rumors, Boyle wanted to cast Tomasz Kot as the main villain but Craig was against this, which eventually lead to Boyle leaving. I was wondering why we hadn't heard much in regards to casting, so this makes sense. I haven't seen anything Tomasz Kot has been in, so I cant comment on how I would feel about him being the main villain. Assuming this report is true, it's a shame Boyle and Craig couldn't work out their differences.

Does Craig have a role in the next film outside of lead act? Co-director or something? Otherwise, shut up and do your job :P

Haha according to the article (or another one I read) Craig has been assisting with casting since Casino Royale. Apparently he was the one who convinced the studio to go with Eva Green for Vesper. So I can see why he is invested in the casting of the main villain.

That makes sense then - although I'm not sure that my view of him has avoided being soured xD

I'm currently re-reading Goldfinger, the hardcover version mentioned in the JB guide (link to the book below). I just wanted to point out that if you want a quality copy of Bond novels, but don't want to fork out for the (absolutely amazing) Folio Society variants, then these hardcovers are fantastic. The cover art is beautiful and they are on good quality paper. Plus, not too pricey.

I haven't seen those hardcovers before. That Goldfinger one is stunning! While I've seen the movie, I haven't had the chance to read the novel. I need to read the book before the Oddjob story arc is released in November.

I don't think that we know it's Oddjob though, do we? I think it's just a 'connection' and we find out as it unfolds, if I'm remembering correctly that is :P

That's true. Pak and Dynamite haven't directly come out and said this is the original, though everything they have released so far points to it being him. That said, it wouldn't be the first time a comic company has misdirected readers to build hype....regardless there will at least be a connection to the original if it's not him, unless Pak is just screwing with us.

    True that... Either way, hype!

Watched the 1967 Casino Royale yesterday for the first time, which is a spoof of the Bond franchise. I spent most of the movie asking myself what the hell was going on. About 20 minutes of the movie is an actual adaption of sorts of the novel. The rest of the movie is just ridiculous nonsense. I wouldn't mind it so much if it was interesting madness but mostly it was just super boring. There were a couple instances I just considered turning it off but forced my way through it. There were a couple interesting things in it, such as Ursula Andress, who was Honey Rider in Dr. No, is in it as Vesper though basically a completely different character from the novel. Also, they use the idea of James Bond being a code name instead of being one person, which I know was tossed around as an idea for Die Another Day.It also came out a couple of months before You Only Live Twice. Overall it was just a dull experience and not worth watching. I end up re-watching the 2006 Casino Royale film today to make up for how miserable the 1967 one was.
